IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys signed three workout players to futures contracts on Wednesday, securing them with the team ahead of the 2016 offseason.

The three signees are offensive tackle Justin Renfrow, offensive guard Jared Smith and linebacker Jerrell Harris. All three players have extensive experience with teams around the NFL, though none of the trio has spent time on an active roster.

Only familiar with Jared Smith, who was a 7th round pick of the Seahawks a few years ago, got cut and did not stick with Atlanta last year.

He's a converted DL who got the nickname "Fat Rabbit".

After looking up Harris, all I can say is wow. This is a looking under a rock deal and it seems to be a standard operating procedure for our pro personnel department.

UDFA out of Alabama in 2012, went from Atlanta, Jacksonville, NE, Oakland, SD, the Montreal Alouettes, Denver and finally in camp with Detroit last year, never making an active squad.

Seems that is our deal lately, signing players out of football for several years thinking they finally get it.

Several players from the practice squad last year were like that (Buddy Jackson and Rodney Smith).

This adds an element for journeymen who are all about dedicated and working the nose to the grind wheel. A great add for the off season commitments to growth.

This is the time teams sign many players like this. Players we never heard of, the late round / FA types from the previous 2 to 3 year drafts.

Many of the PS players have been, or will be signed to the Reserved / Futures List.
Last I seen all of them signed except Darrion Weems and an OG Antonio Johnson.

These are the churn type players, and may find a depth guy or two. I don't recall too many in recent history that have stuck around though, if any at all.

Familiar with Jerrell Harris. Highly recruited player (5 star) who went to Bama with Ingram/Julio/Dareus. Harris never did live up to his expectations of his 5* status and pretty much rode the bench other than special teams.

Don't understand this move with Dallas and pretty sure Harris won't make it past preseason. I rather take a chance on a hungry rookie than scraping the bottom of the barrel for NFL players.

What is there to not understand?

No its churning.

If you think this is churning, you don't even understand the concept.

The whole catch phrase around here came from Bill Parcells. Every time you go get someone, you cut someone.

It involves change. Not doing what every single team does at this time of year, which is adding futures players to the roster.

I wouldn't waste your time there. Some people can't put down their Pom-poms long enough to actually comprehend what they're reading.
