I agree with most of these, and would like to retain Carr and Claiborne to prevent immediate needs in the secondary. Church is underrated, but I also think he will command more than some of us think. If thats the case you may see Wilcox back. LB wont be a bad as we have some good depth in players like Damian Wilson and Anthony Hitchens who are really turning into productive players. If Jaylon is healthy and is as advertised this could end up being one of the best lb groups in the NFL.

Forget about all the defensive ones and sign CB A.J. Bouye, S Tony Jackson and DE Melvin Ingram/Chandler Jones/JPP instead. (I'd draft a rushman in the first as well). I'd like Terrell McClain to return, but I think we can handle that loss.

Offensively, I'd love to bring McFadden back as a cheap backup, grab a receiver like Kenny Stills and keep Leary by cutting Free and allowing Collins and Green to compete at RT.

Gotta try to keep TWill, Leary and Church and Wilcox. McFadden would be great at a reasonable price.

Carr and Church are locks. They'll get this year's salary probably as a signing bonus to keep cap low this year.

The "others" that might be worth keeping will just depend on the price.

Leary is gone though. Wilcox is probably gone too.

I wonder if Escobar will even be picked up by a team.

I would keep 7-8 tops. But since we're ready to compete. I think Leary is a must, along with a handful of others. What would it cost to tag Leary?

Leary and Church are the only two who come to play each and every week. With that I would retain Wilcox over Church based on age and very similar playing styles. While it won't happen everyone else should be replaced with a better player esp on the DEF side of the ball. I was in ATL last week for our annual McDonald's who can flip the burger the best meeting....made me sick just sick.....still not over not beating the Pack!!!

QB Kellen Moore - I've changed my tune on him. With Romo and Sanchez gone, I think he's back
QB Mark Sanchez - played his way out of a job, and possibly the league
RB Lance Dunbar - no need to waste any more time or snaps
RB Darren McFadden - I think he comes back as the primary backup
WR Brice Butler - little development from him and came up smallest when it mattered most, bye
WR Terrance Williams - will cost too much for mediocre production
TE Gavin Escobar - time for everyone to admit this pick was a failure
G Jonathan Cooper - I'd try to bring him back on a multi-year deal to possibly replace Leary
G Ronald Leary - out of the Cowboys price range
DT Richard Ash - no impact, easily replaced
DT Jack Crawford - strictly a rotation guy, I'd offer vet minimum and let him shop around
DE Ryan Davis - did little, then got hurt, I'd look for better options
DT Terrell McClain - did a nice job inside with Collins, I'd bring back for little guaranteed
LB Andrew Gachkar - not worth the price tag, another vet minimum offer
LB Justin Durant - likely to retire
LB Rolando McClain
CB Brandon Carr - I'm making an offer for him to finish his career in Dallas, mutually beneficial
S Barry Church - I'll make an offer, but not a big one
CB Morris Claiborne - I offer him a one-year deal just like last year, can't stay healthy
S J.J. Wilcox - offer the same deal I offer Church. Whoever takes it first, gets it.

The most difficult decision is TWill, IMO. They really need to have a veteran #2 outside WR but TWill is going to be a lot more expensive than what fans or the Cowboys would prefer. The options to replace him in FA seem very limited. Butler is not reliable enough to be the replacement.

CB is also difficult. Do they keep Carr and/or Claiborne or go after a better and more expensive free agent. I guess they could take the risk that Scandrick and Brown can be the starters with a draft pick being the 3rd CB but that just seems to risky. If they sign Carr or Claiborne, they are highly unlikely to also sign an expensive free agent like Trumaine Johnson.

If DT McClain leaves they'll manage with either of these combinations:
Thorton 1-tech
Collins 3-tech
or
Collins 1-tech
TCrawford or Irving 3-tech

At Safety, I'm not sure Heath would be much different than Church or Wilcox if he had to start. He is more likely to get INTs.

At LB, those players need to go anyway. Lee/Hitchens/Wilson is good enough and Jaylon Smith and Nacho are possibilities. Without Jaylon Smith, Wilson might compete with Hitchens for at MLB.

They might as well just save money and make Moore the backup QB. They're probably dooming if the backup has to play more than a couple of games regardless of Moore, Sanchez, or some outside free agent. The Cowboys could ask for a young QB in return when they trade Romo. Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch would be good backups to Dak.;)

There should be plenty of RBs in either FA or mid/late draft to backup Zeke. At worst case they have Morris under contract. I'm OK with McFadden returning at a low salary or even Dunbar at the minimum with no guaranteed money.

I hate hate hate losing Leary, especially considering that he'll probably be great value relative to the contract that he receives. Cooper is very interesting but he'll likely want a legit chance to compete for a starting job. We've all debated the Collins to RT issue ad nauseam but it seems unlikely that they would move him just to re-sign Leary.

At TE they were not going to use Escobar regardless of his pass catching abilities. If the Cowboys had Jimmy Graham I think he would have received minimal snaps because they can't scheme to use a 2nd pass catching TE and they continue to play Witten on 100% of offensive snaps. They have Witten and Swaim with Hanna (injury) and Rico as possibilities with likely only 3 spots. Hopefully Rico wows everybody this off-season and in training camp.

If these players are still on the team, then they likely have not upgraded as much as we would prefer.
DT Richard Ash
DT Jack Crawford
LB Andrew Gachkar
LB Justin Durant

I thought DE Ryan Davis flashed some upside but was also terrible on occasion. He has more upside but way less consistency than Jack Crawford. I would bring Davis to training camp on a minimum type contract.

It's fun to be an arm chair GM, but I'm not sure I would want to be the guy making all of these decisions. You're always going to be wrong on occasion.

Escobar will sign with NE and become a perennial pro bowler.
I do think he will become a decent player on another team. Several TEs have departed the Cowboys and had some amount of success with other teams.
