Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick (32) celebrates after getting an interception in a game against the Houston Texans during the first half of play at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Sunday, October 5, 2014.

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick was in town Tuesday and talked to club officials about his contract situation that has kept him from joining his teammates the last three weeks for voluntary offseason workouts at Valley Ranch, according to a source.

Scandrick is headed back to his home state of California on Tuesday, the source said, and hasn’t rejoined his teammates for offseason workouts. That’s still a work in progress.

Scandrick isn’t happy with his 2015 salary. He has been the Cowboys’ best cornerback the last few seasons, but he is set to make a base salary of only $1.5 million in 2015. That’s significantly less than cornerback Brandon Carr ($8 million base salary in 2015) and cornerback Morris Claiborne ($2.6 million base in 2015). Scandrick wouldn’t even be paid among the top 50 cornerbacks in the league in 2015 if he played under his current deal.

In December 2013, the Cowboys extended Scandrick’s contract two seasons through 2018, guaranteeing him $9 million more in guaranteed money.

He signed his contract, let him play it out.
Send him packing if he don't like it, send him to the Jaguars and let him see lose a shot at getting to the SB....

Just kidding. But he really needs to report and practice when it comes to the mandatory part.

he likely will report when it is mandatory, but he only has one chance to make this kind of money, so I don't blame him.

If he wants a big contract then he will most likely have to have at least a pretty good start to a season.

I may be in the minority on this but if a player has signed and agreed to a contract for X dollars and years, then wants to holdout for more money, if I'm the GM I don't renegotiate and let him sit back and not get paid. If he comes back before training camp, he has to earn his spot back for missing off season workouts. If he comes back after camp and expects to play he can ride the pine for a few games as a lesson.

I was raised that as man when you say you're going to work, you work. When your contract is up the then you can negotiate more money if it has been earned. If I were the GM I could give two ***** who the player is, it could be tony romo for all I care. You don't show up, you hold out, I won't renegotiate and you will not get paid. Plain and simple.

While it may not be popular at first, once the precedent has been set and the players on the team know what to expect, they won't hold out, they'll show up and get to work.

So you're fine paying Carr 8m this year?

Love that post. A day's work for a day's pay. Honor your commitment and be a man of your word. Well said indeed sir.

I have no problem with players trying to get more money from the team if they outplay their deal. The team will damned sure cut a player if they are under performing their contract. The issue I have with Scandrick is I'm just not sure he's radically under paid. I think he's probably slightly underpaid. But that tends to happen when you sign deals early. Basically it feels like he wants the best of all worlds. He wants to get top dollar and have the security of a long term deal without hitting FA.

I don't think he warrants a big contract, but I do believe he outplayed his current deal.

More than average but less than a lot. He has some leverage as I believe we can't afford to lose him at this point in time. Maybe later in camp we can get some players there. He still has a lot of experience and can play the slot which IMO is more difficult than outside.

That's fine if you have more workers to hire. If not then you coax what you can from what you have.

Oh, I know in most situations you have to do what you have to do to get what you need to get done, done. So, sometimes you have to lie, steal, beg, borrow, and beat people.

Well, its all voluntary so there is really nothing the Cowboys can do if he doesn't want to work out with the team.

Now if it comes time for training camp and he is a no show, then we might have a problem.

If he believed in himself, ask him why he signed a 5 year contract at his age. He should have done a one year extension.

I think it's for the same reason that he re-signed so soon after being drafted. To get as much new money into his pockets as he could, as quickly as he could do it. And the Cowboys may have taken advantage of that in prior contract negotiations as well.

But the fact is that the man made an agreement on a contract for 4 more years! I could see room for renegotiating with a year left on his deal, maybe even two. But the fact is that he just re-worked the deal two years ago and should have known exactly what he was getting into.

I'm starting to think I'm looking at a guy who's burning through money and now looking for the Cowboys to give him more because he's managing it so poorly.

That was the contract agreed to, then that's what he gets paid. This is a double edged sword because it'll help the cowboys front office be more frugal with the big money contracts and not hand them out like candy.

Granted they've done a better job or that in recent years but we've had tooany Carr's, Roy Williams' and other big name free agents that get grossly over paid and under perform.

Thats not what I asked.

The contract agreed to only had so much money guaranteed.

I asked if you were comfortable paying Carr 8 million this year.
