What happened when Big Ben's defense aged and became somewhat average? 8-8 seasons?

The man has earned some respect for his play in Dallas, and the media should reflect that. Instead of being like Houston and running an all world running back and Bum Phillips out of town. Maybe the Romo, Jerry, Jason haters should just shut up before they become just another Houston.

Very good Pro Romo article. Your right on all points although Romo does seem to escape any ownership in critical losses. The only thing that bothers me is when Romo was injured, Kitna came in and actually done well. Orton also came in and done well. I love Romo but when he's gone, and we get a good replacement that takes us to the SB, Romo will be another Danny white afterthought. Also, every year we defend Romo in the offseason because the critical mistakes have faded somewhat from memory. I do think he's our best option right now at QB, but my feelings won't be hurt when we draft someone else. This game is not about Stats, its about winning and losing so your right about that. I am a Romo fan because he's the QB of the Cowboys but I don't trust him. When the games on the line he's like a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.........

I like how Kitna played during that stretch, but I thought Orton was awful. The guy just throws an endless supply of dump offs.

Yep. and it's been that way going on 9 years now. what are we going to miss. 1 playoff win in 9 years with him as the starting QB? no playoffs in 4 going on 5 years? if you ask me, we won't miss much.

Never been much for the lemming life. I won't start now.

So Romo outplayed Peyton Manning? Bronco fans will say nein; Romo lovers will say yes. We can bring up stats you hate or we can be subjective.
But that great-stats superlative of outplaying Peyton was not enough. The author add a qualifier:
Of course, there it was: the mention that Romo stepped on someone's foot and that led to a duck flutter pass that spelled trouble. Yes, we always half to qualify his misfortunes.
He bobbled in Seattle, but how many QBs hold the kick, huh?
Romo is elite, yet his team is not.
Romo has been hampered by bad defenses.

And to be subjective: better than Wilson and Kaepernick? Well, romo might be better than those two Young and playoff-worthy QBs, but I am reserving judgment in case the former wins his SECOND SUPER BOWL RING and the latter continues to surpass Tony in PLAYOFF WINS.

C'MON. I like your essay. But both Romo lovers and Romo skeptics revert to their tried and true responses.

Suffice to say that I have not celebrated a SINGLE COWBOYS PLAYOFF WIN since, hep me out boys, forever. That must half been Romo's LONE PLAYOFF WIN IN HIS COWBOY CAREER. I knon, one player does not win a game by hisself. But how many times half we said, Aikman, Staubach won Super Bowls . . . Tom Brady's Super Bowl wins . . .
But, somehow when it comes to Romo, NO PLAYER WINS A GAME BY HISSELF.

let us do all a favor and conclude with this: Romo's personal stats are great. (anyone who disagree is stupid, imho).
Romo, alleged leader of the Cowboys, has not participated in more than ONE playoff win in his career.
And it seems that ever late December and ever January, I sit watching other teams high-five each other in the playoffs. Romo meanwhile is rich. And I and you fans are poorer for halfing beliefed yet another year we are headed with baby steps into the playoffs.

Again, good reading. Good luck with this high-priced, highly praised QB. As for me, I am all out of confetti for the man from Eastern Illinois and soon, I am sure, Canton, Ohio.

While I'm certain this feels like a defense of Romo, what does it really say about this team?

Romo is one of the players and when they cannot make the play-offs, he too accepts some of the responsibility.
