so my video reports last week weren't as well received because i didn't write out the reports in addition to the video.

so this time i'm gonna write a summary of what i saw on Kony Ealy and Dominique Easley. for the full range of opinions you can see the video

Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri

i have read mixed reports on Ealy, some saying 1st rounder, others not so impressed. i watched his film against Georgia and Florida, and i was not impressed. against Georgia he showed no burst or explosion and was slow. he was severely outplayed by Michael Sam and the offensive linemen dominated him. his only good plays where he could get a little pressure was rushing from a DT position. against Florida he was a little better in terms of speed and explosion, but still handled easily by offensive linemen. he got a great sack/fumble combo but wasn't blocked on the play. Sam again played way better.

honestly if by chance he was still around on the 3rd day of the draft it wouldn't shock me in the least based on the tape i saw. I'll gladly eat crow if i'm wrong about him but i wouldn't sniff him in Dallas

Dominique Easley, DT, Florida.

not much tape on Easley from 2013 due to the injuries, so just got game against Miiami. very explosive off the snap and good foot quickness and speed. a little reckless at times and gets a little out of control. doesn't always get off blocks and can be taken out of plays easier than you'd like. has that quick twitch and made a couple great plays in the backfield using quickness to split the C/G gap.

health is his big detractor. if healthy he has 1st round talent, but b/c of the injuries, even when he's cleared i don't see him higher than round 2. if he's still not healthy could drop to 4th depending on how the doctors evaluate the knees. for Cowboys since we have bad luck with guys who were hurt in college i don't think i'd go for him unless the value was too high to pass up, like if he was still on the board in the 3rd or 4th round

vs. Georgia: the first Sam sack is because Ealy stunted out of the 3 hole and Sam crashed it. The very next play Kealy beats the OT on a quick inside move but it was a quick throw. He did stand up and get ridden back by a double by the h-back and TE. At the same time he was asked to 2 gap the OT a lot and held the point consistently. GA would give help for the few deep attempts they made. Showed the technique to dip the shoulder, get the arm past and maintain balance. Almost got a safety on another inside move at the goalline. Should be noted that all single blocking was matched with a quick drop and throw. Another gap shot and Murray is forced to throw the ball away in the end zone.

Second half was a steady diet of runs to the strongside away from Ealy. Would like to see him do a better job trying to beat the cutoff and pursue.

This game showed a guy that could get pressure out of the 3T and both end spots as well as hold the point of attack. Would like to see him do a better job using his hands but the team was obviously coached to hit. Many first downs saw the line men just try and crash down an OL presumably to hold the line and let the LB free to get the carrier.

vs FL: first play has him shooting a gap but an inside quick hitter ran by him. second play has him at WDE and the play is a stretch run to the strong side. He does beat the cut off which was poor and chases the play down the line and makes the tackle going out of bounds for no gain. he got sealed inside on an OT that went for a nice gain. That seemed to anger him. At first it wasn't good because he tried to do the 2 gap paddy cake to little good effect but then he beat the OT 3 straight times on outside moves to blow up a run and finally lead a jailbreak blitz on 3rd down. next possession he knocks the hands away and swims by to blow up another play. Was asked to play a short zone and a RB did enter it and he did manage to cover the throw making the QB tuck the ball and run.

Second half, Crushing hit for FF although it was a free lane. Sam gets a sack but again Ealy was effective in the short zone letting the overload get there. took a free shot on a false start needsto be careful but like the nastiness. quickness gets to the QB before a screen can set up. Missouri is crashing the strongside so FL counters behind it for a big gain off the weakside not once but twice. Second time Ealy was hesitant and the play ran by him. Less read and react and more attack plz. They overload his side getting him a one on one on a deep throw for once. Beats his man to the outside and blows up the play again.

Ealy has been dominant against the RG and RT playing from a 2 technique all the way outside. Second half and up by three scores he was asked to attack gaps and get up field. He was in the backfield all day beating all OL. Gave the LT fits set him up early in the game with inside moves and then was able to get outside and make plays. Guy start false starting and was clearly discomfited.

Overall: showed position versatility to play at a high level at the 3T and either end spot. Showed he could dip and lean outside, swim move, club or rip his way inside. He can hold the point against OT and OG if asked to two gap and control the line. Still made plays despite being gameplanned vs Georgia and was used to decoy to great effect from the attention he drew in both games.

That article is strange. He admits that he has moves to the outside including the fundamental dip move that he is effective with and then acts like the only thing he did was the swim move. The swim move absolutely dominated OL and he went to it a lot. This isn't cute stunting. It's beating straight up man matchups time and time again.

He says that he wanted to see greatness. Well Ealy easily had 8 or 9 pressures where he forced the QB to throw the ball away in the second half of the Florida game. He was unblockable from anywhere and it dismantled any comeback attempt. I don't know what to say really. I guess because the announcers didn't tell him it was greatness or something.

He doesn't win with a single move. The Missouri line plays games where they just have the DL attack olinemen. Hit them in the mouth. Sometimes Kealy would try to get his hands inside and low to bull rush, sometimes he would lower his shoulder and dive into the OL, sometimes he would club them with a rip move to try and get them turned. You used to be able to hit them in the head but you you can still pop an ol in the chest good so that it stuns an OL for a split second. Ealy does that. Jernigan does it to and its a big reason I like him.

An OL has to prepare for him to come straight at them so he best anchor, he does have a quick first step and good balance so you better be quick on your kickslide, but you best not overextend because he is like to hit you and try to come back inside as well. He showed he could do all three but just because he used one most of all to dominate should not be a strike against him.

He is a physical presence inside that SEC OC and OL coaches took notice of. The Florida linemen certainly did.

Taking a step back, I see Ealy as a good Strong Side DE. The problem is that this draft has a lot of options at SDE but not many at WDE. Also, the Cowboys already have mostly SDE types on the roster. IMO, they really need a guy with elite quickness to play the WDE position.

So you think a guy like Trent Williams or Jason Peters would handle him and that would be that?
