He reminds me of Greg Ellis......not flashy or spectacular....but solid, steady, always seeming to make the play when needed, plays the run and pass equally well, and a quality lockerroom guy

The knock on Crowder right now, is that he's an underachiever. He's got the skills and measurables, but the light just hasn't come on yet. I think that's mainly because, Mack Brown is a total players' coach. However, I think Crowder could develop into a solid SOLB with better coaching. If we could get Crowder with our 3rd round pick, that would be awesome!

What's it going to be then, eh?

Yes, we need more of those types.

We don't need any players who really don't care about anything else but getting to the quarterback.

We need more solid, steady and boring players. It has brought us so much since Greg Ellis has been around to provide that.

Well if he's an underachiever then we can only offer him a 4 year $49.5 million contract. That has been our trend.

Is 4 years the maximum in the 3rd round?

I'm almost convinced Texas was that "country club" school that the FO referred to.

However, with Parcells gone, they brought in Davis, so maybe that was his direction only.

I'd actually be more interested in Robison personally.

Robison supposedly had a good combine, too. He was always one of my favorite Horns.

I like Crowder, but I actually like Robison better... he has the better speed, I think he'd be better able to move to OLB in a 3-4 scheme... if you're playing a 4-3, Crowder is probably the better choice...

He had a GREAT combine, far better than I expected... he put up the 3rd fastest 40 time of any defensive lineman, but that was only the start:

He had the best vertical jump, at 40.5 inches... he had the best broad jump, at 10 feet, 1 inch... he had the best 3 cone time, by a fairly wide margin, at 6.89 seconds (second best was 7.06 seconds)... he had the 3rd best 20 shuttle time...

IOW, he was simply the most agile and athletic defensive lineman there...

Thanks for the stats. I knew it was good, but unfortunately, I didn't get a lot of the info from the combine. So, I didn't know it was that good.

A little too much love for Longhorn players in this thread I'm afraid.

Gee, you don't reckon that maybe that's because they have a LOT of good players about to be drafted, do ya?? Players that were instrumental in winning a national championship...

Justin Blalock... a first day prospect... perhaps even a first rounder...

Lyle Sendlein... a second day prospect...

Kasey Studdard-- a second day prospect...

Tim Crowder-- a first day prospect...

Brian Robison-- a late first day/ early second day prospect...

Aaron Ross-- a likely first round prospect...

Michael Griffin-- a first day prospect...

Tarell Brown-- a late first day/ early second day prospect...

Selvin Young-- a late round prospect...

Of that group, the only ones I DON'T think will be solid pros are Studdard, Brown and Young... all of the others would also address Cowboys' team needs...

Why would you have a problem with the Cowboys targeting good players at their positions of need??

I thought you were a longhorn superfan?

Generally, I have zero interest in prospects from UT.

I do like Ross and Robison this year though.

Gee I think the thread was started because he was a Longhorn, period. Crowder disappeared more than Houdini but by all means let's draft him. On a side note I think Selvin Young is the sleeper of the draft but I'm a Longhorn fan too.

Better yet lets look at the Longhorn players who were big prospects and disapeared in the Pros. Anyone got numbers on THAT?

I don't think you can say that Crowder disappeared. That is not really accurate. If you want to say that there are injury concerns with Crowder, I can go with that. However, when Crowder was healthy, he produced. To me, that is a more accurate representation of Crowders career at UT.

It would be nice to have a few Ellis type players on the team. There was a period where there was a shortage of solid, steady and boring players. Ekuban was not one and got replaced by someone worse in Wiley. There are many more examples.

If Canty and Spears played at least at Ellis' level, Dallas would be in decent shape. The true hope and the reason both were drafted was to exceed what Ellis brought to the Cowboys. Ware is already doing that. Dallas needs more Wares, but I would settle for more Ellis types. Don't want any more Ekubans and certainly no more Wileys.
