I think -- and it's not completely clear -- but I think what he is saying is that he was only falling to the ground after the catch because of the contact. If you're not falling to the ground and you have two feet in bounds with control, it's a complete pass. But if you're falling to the ground while securing control of the ball, control has to be maintained throughout the process.

That describes a diving catch attempt.......then you do have to maintain possession when you hit. Dez was not diving for the ball, he jumped, caught it, secured it in his hands and then moved it to his left hand and THEN diving to the goal line to attempt to score. They are acting like all was one act when it actually is a sequence of events culminating in his dive to the endzone when the ball finally came loose but was irrelevant since he hit the ground and the ground cannot cause a fumble. There were also 2 steps and a lunge in between those acts all which occurred on the field of play----so it is a completed pass. And the hit or no hit by the opponent has nothing to do with whether it is a completion, only that he cannot advance the ball wherever he lands.

Anyways, Dez and the Boys got screwed and now the NFL is on spin control trying to justify the overturned call. Their reasons are embellished everyday.

If that's what he's saying.....that's fair even though I don't agree with it but its fair.

lol

am I in an asylum?

Gresham did not have to maintain control because the play was whistled dead due to forward progress stopped in the field of play.

Nothing matters after that

I tend to agree with you that if Dez wanted to, he could perhaps have stood up after catching the ball without going to the ground, but that's certainly not clear from the video. The bigger issue to me is that it seems very clear that he was lunging, which should have completed the pass.

i still have it. wish i had my video ripper.

Dean says " The referee has to deterime if the receiver got both feet down prior to him get contacted which sent him to the ground, if thats the case then he doesnt have to hold onto it when he hits the ground"

What they are going to claim now is, that last ditch effort by a defender who was clearly beat , when he stuck his hand up and touched the ball(dez gets control of ball after that before his first foot comes down to the field) and he then puts his leg out there(as he was falling and clearly beat but touched Dezs leg) was ....."Contact".

Man they are really , really.............................................really reaching here.....

Complete BS and may have cost the Cowboys the game and SB.

somebody needs to be fired!! This is their JOB. What are they doing?

I know Jerry, bad calls by refs are part of the game. But this goes beyond bad...................

Because the ref called forward progress as soon as he was hit.....nothing after the whistle blew the play dead matters.

The Gresham highlights the problems that forward progress rules can create, nothing more...if forward progress isn't called, it would've been incomplete....

UNDERSTAND PLEASE please plase /sob /cry

He completed the catch, (which Dez did) with two feet down, (which Dez did) and was contacted by a defender, (which Dez was) which then completed the catch enough that he didn't have to maintain control, even though he was out of bounds.

Dez's should have been upheld.

A catch is a catch is a catch is a catch! We don't need to see anymore of this BS with their silly ruling... Dez clearly caught the ball, took 2 steps, legs got tangled up, transferred ball to left hand, took another step & lunged with left foot while trying to reach the ball out.. 3 FREAKIN!!!!! football moves by Dez on the play, transferred ball - sprung off the turf with left foot & attempted to reach out with left hand

There's certainly contact there on the legs. Whether it was enough to impede his progress I dont think anyone can say without a doubt.

I'm very sure that if he is not tripped...he scores.

The phrase forward progress was not uttered in Deans explanantion...??

and "Understand Please" ? Youve been waiting on this havent you?

No one understands the rule, and the people that say they do, are getting paid to understand it. Even they don't understand it!!!!

Dean, is this you?

Dean Blandino - Asst VP of Officiating - Explains what a catch is... if you're a Bengals WR.
By kelub on Jan 13 2015, 11:51a 43

Check the BLOGGINGTHEBOYS site
http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2015...vp-of-officiating-explains-what-a-catch-is-if

It would seem the the official on the field on Sunday at Green Bay based his decision to rule Dez down at the 1 yard line based on what Blandino said in this analysis.

It also fits the review and ruling of a similar fade pass to Dez Week 7 vs NYG where Dez reached the ball out and ball came loose after it hits the the ground. (was initially ruled a TD, reviewed and determined he was down at the 1)

I think these are slightly different because gresham was more upright / standing on the ground.... So they ruled he had possession at that point. Dez never really caught his balance like gresham. While I do think the dez play was a catch I think these two plays are different.

Dez was NOT going to the ground regardless of contact

I dont think so either. Yeah we was stumbling....he jumped pretty high. I mean, just stop for a second and admire what a freaking beatiful catch that really was....

but i think Dez stumbles and bumbles his way into the Endzone. and when he realized he wasnt going to make it.

He dove for it....he dove for the Goal line.

I'm not sure it really matters. In that instance, if the defender had not contacted him, he would not have fallen to the ground. But obviously Dez was going to the ground regardless of contact.

If you look at the replay closely, that is not true.
