and he's got the NFL Network gig as his team's interview go-to.

Like I've said elsewhere today. Chest-thumping gets you noticed, trash-talking gets you press, and being photogenic doesn't hurt either.

But the players know 'who's who'..that's all that matters.

Come on guys, he is not overrated he just had a tough game. You cant expect a db to be perfect.

I remember another thread early today when Vintage was claiming Hall was a TOP CB. He was told chapter and verse that Hall is over rated and gives up TD's and BIG Plays but still seemed to think he was at least as good as TNew. Probably still thinks so inspite of all the evidence to the contrary.

the point is that he isnt as good as some people think...he gets by on self promotion more than good play on the field

When you rank near the bottom of the league in allowing catches, yards and touchdowns -- as DeAngelo Hall did last season -- but some people still hail you as one of the best cornerbacks in the league, you are overrated.

I can still remember last season when T.O caught like 9 passes for 130+ and the experts said he shut T.O. down.

and hardly anybody mentioned the two easy tds mcnabb could have had when Owens was wide open...one of them was a deep ball where he toasted Hall badly...but Madden made a meathead comment after Hall pushed Owens out of bounds and people though Hall was "the man"

:banghead: , but at least Madden mentioned Tnew as a pro-bowler this year. I'm crossing my fingers that Tnew makes some plays tommorrow on national TV and chest thumps himself.

I remember that too, and I remember thinking, "what game were they watching?"
All the media was making excuses saying how good TO was and that Hall was a rookie and then with the next breath saying how he shut down TO even though TO had one of his biggest yardage days against him. I was thinking "what part of this doesn't make sense?"

I still fail to understand how the media has fallen for the hype that has come from, and only from, DeAngelo Hall himself. I thought the media was supposed to be inherently skeptical of shameless-self promoters that haven't yet accomplished anything in the league. I would think they should be bashing him instead of incessantly praising him for getting toasted. I would think they would at least not talk about him with such reverence and draw comparisons with Champ Bailey.
But they continue to worship him for some inexplicable reason and rate him as one of the top 3 CBs in the league. There are about 6-7 CBs (maybe more) that are quietly better than Hall but don't get the credit because either they didn't run a 4.2 40, they don't claim to be the second-coming of Deion, or they don't shamelessly self-promote and talk endless trash.

not to compare talent but only hype....Hall gives up 9 catches for 130 yards to TO and gets praise for "shutting down TO." Meanwhile, TNew holds Steve Smith to like 1 catch for 5 yards and no one mentions his name. Puzzling.

This thread totally astounds me.

I watch a lot of football, and had no idea there was some sort of consensus growing that Hall was an elite corner.

Speedy kid with a lot of potential and moxie, yes.

But certainly not 'shut-down' as Champ, certainly not wily as an old fox like Law or as physically gifted as Deion was, certainly not tough like AH or even old man Madison.

I think folks are exaggerating a few mediot takes, Hall's own bravado, and upset over the lack of Tnew props.

Because nowhere no how have I heard serious football discussion maintaining Hall is the second coming of Ty Law.

So what?

There are plenty of players with one PB appearance.

Injury within the position, lucky break years...or just a year in which the position is dominated by the aging and the very callow. Or the player is fortunate enough to play on a unit which both covers his mistakes and enhances his skills.

It's concurrent PB appearances that spell 'quality'..and even when the old and now undeserving keep getting voted in, it's due to the fact they had once been consistently, consecutively, quality.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over a DeAngelo Hall or a Dre Bly, or get my panties in a wad over a weekend in Hawaii.

And Ashlie Lelie..he went once too.

Has at least given up 3 TDs today, but he'll go to the pro-bowl just because he talks too damn much! Good player no doubt, but i'll take my boy any day of the year.

I thought you were calling for more players like him?

I just saw a reebok commercial with DeAngelo Hall roll across the screen. The guy talks more for not doing much more than about any player in the NFL.

You weren't joking. Anyhow, watch NFLN every week the Falcons play and you'll see what I'm talking about. They pimp him as the next Deion. ANd show his self-proclaimed, verse "The best DB alive, since 21 retired" line way too much.

Yeah, I know.

I watch the Falcons as much as I can. If my boy Johnny Abe gets healthy, he and Kearney, not to mention Brooking and Hartwell may well put DeAngelo right back on that PB
roster.

But I sure hope they remind that kid of it every day of the week..trust Milloy will let him know, anyway.

this after he was taped on Sunday NFL Countdown talking about how he wouldn't be greedy and would settle for only 2 picks today to punch his ticket to Hawaii and the Pro Bowl.
