this after he was taped on Sunday NFL Countdown talking about how he wouldn't be greedy and would settle for only 2 picks today to punch his ticket to Hawaii and the Pro Bowl.

I remember one of the commentators early in the year relaying Hall telling him that he was going to play WR go get into the Pro Bowl...he did nothing that game

but sad thing is, he'll probably wind back up in the PRo Bowl w/ a couple more INTs

Hall is going to go to the Pro Bowl.

If the fans want to select him to the Pro Bowl to watch him play, let them. It has no bearing on how the regular season games are played out.

Hall had a bad game? So what? Newman had tons of them two years ago. Roy's game is similarly flawed, yet no one *****es when he goes to Hawaii year after year.

So what?

There are plenty of players with one PB appearance.

Injury within the position, lucky break years...or just a year in which the position is dominated by the aging and the very callow. Or the player is fortunate enough to play on a unit which both covers his mistakes and enhances his skills.

It's concurrent PB appearances that spell 'quality'..and even when the old and now undeserving keep getting voted in, it's due to the fact they had once been consistently, consecutively, quality.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over a DeAngelo Hall or a Dre Bly, or get my panties in a wad over a weekend in Hawaii.

And Ashlie Lelie..he went once too.

I agree, but my point was that he DOES get the HYPE and media coverage despite his average performance on the field.
Fans selecting probowl rosters is ridiculous. The players and coaches should be the only ones voting for the probowl if the pb is to have any bearing on actual performance rather than purely hype.

He played like crap today.

But up until today, he has been damn good.

Out of curioiusity, did he give up 3 or 2 TDs today?
You mean, up til last week, when he got beat like a rented mule, then again today, when he got taken to the woodshed even worse, he's been damn good.

Moral victories, baby.

Try? Try what? The point is that young CBs will get burned. Two seasons ago, T-new had a bad year, whereas Hall had a bad game. Why the hell is there a thread devoted to a CB not in our division?

It's possible to ignore the hype. And totally possible to write off some of the PB election when you know over 70 million ballots were cast last year. Even if the fans only comprise 1/3 of the voting, that's still about 69.999 billion more votes that needed to be cast. :) The corner vote lost me, tho, with Tory James selection a few years back.

Some interesting things I see/hear these days is the feeling in some quarters that outstanding dbs should never get beat, burned, or have a bad day. And then once they do, they suck. The other side of the coin is to annoint the next Deion after a decent game. And there is also the 'fact' that no stats sheet can ever adequately describe elite db talent.

I really think this is a time of transition for corners, in wake of the beefed up PI rule adherence a few seasons ago. I'm old enough to recall when more drastic changes effected the game of even the db I think was the best ever played - Mel Blount - and some shaking out is still going on after this last tweaking.

There are a lot of good dbs whose games are somewhat qualified by the pass rushing ability of the front four. Others who have to do much more. And I think everyone has their favorite NFL dbs..I know over the last few years it's been Chris McAllister and Will Demps for me...just like from 99-2003 it was Nors boys, Law and Milloy, and just a tad earlier Madison and Surtain.

Barber is great too..I suppose still the best zone coverage guy out there, but I prefer a man cover as close to the Blount style as one can legally get.

But Hall, he's a wet behind the ears, noisy blip on the radar screen just now..let's see in five years what he's become.

I guess what I'm saying is that stylistic preference is behind a lot of the hype. And a good deal of the "over-looking". Like Bailey... I can respect his ability, but I've never been wowed by his game.

In Newman's "bad" year (which, as you said, was TWO seasons ago), he still allowed fewer catches and yards than Hall did last season when he went to the Pro Bowl. And Hall didn't even play in every game.

As ESPN's K.C. Joyner said, even in his "bad" year, Newman's stats were excellent -- eighth-lowest completion rate allowed and eighth-fewest yards allowed per attempt. In Hall's "Pro Bowl" year, he finished 36th in success rate allowed and 42nd in yards allowed per attempt, according to Joyner.

The difference is that Hall is praised so much the darn media wants you to believe he can walk on water. Roy doesn't get the same treatment by far.

Because nowhere no how have I heard serious football discussion maintaining Hall is the second coming of Ty Law.

Wasnt there a thread where ESPN or somebody had him and Merriman in their top 5 defensive players list?

To be honest, Newman's one of the better corners I've seen in a while. It's gotten to the point where I am truly surprised when someone catches a ball on him.
