Dear Bill: Please do not rush Henry back

Look Bill,

I know you don't believe in injuries and I know the Cowboys have a tough opponent after the bye week with the defending NFC champions, but you did bring in Aaron Glenn in case this situation arose. I know Glenn has made some mistakes this year, but he's still been relatively solid in coverage. I know he's not the same physical presence as Henry, but you're going to end up hurting the season more if you force Henry to play too early with this groin tear.

Groin injuries have an annoying tendency to hang around if a player is rushed too early. Someone like Henry who isn't one of the faster corners in the league is going to get burned OFTEN if he can't have full mobility. Teams already pick on him a lot since Terence Newman is quietly becoming a shutdown corner. I really don't want to see the same thing that happened to Kevin Smith after his injuries when he played with Deion. Please don't ruin Henry's confidence back there. I know Henry's injury isn't as serious as Smith's problems, but you get my point.

The Cowboys have a bye week, followed by the Eagles who don't look nearly as good as they used to be, and a then a weak Detroit matchup after that. Save Henry for Denver four weeks from now if you have to. I feel these Cowboys are playoff contenders and one of the main reasons is the shutdown defense that looks damn good with Henry and Newman at corner. I know Philly is an important NFC East game, but please don't risk the entire season for just one game.

Yours in Cowboys land,

Painful as it is to admit, you're probably right. Of course we need to take the season one game at a time, but we also need to look at the big picture. Henry getting a long-term injury would be a real blow. This is why we brought Glenn here. Put him out there and let him show that he still has it. This would also present a great opportunity for Newman to shadow Owens. I think he's up to it. I'd give Henry a couple weeks off (maybe even the Detroit game) and bring him in at full speed for the division title push.

Nice posts, and sentiments, TBC.

I don't think AH's confidence could be destroyed with a sledge hammer, and altho Bill doesn't 'believe' in injuries, he won't play one who shouldn't be out there. Especially one who has already proven his toughness.

It is only 'one' game, and no player's health or career should be risked.

Frankly, it'd be interesting to see just what this guy has come to mean to the defense. In run support as well as coverage....his absence imo would be painful, but sufficiently revealing.

If hes being this cautious with JJ, I think he will take time and get Henry back in there when hes really ready. Too much of the season left to risk aggrivating it. If he misses Philly, fine, but I think he will be in there come Philly. Certainly the bye week and a mon night game came at the right time this year.

Kevin Smith popped his achielles. That tends to ruin or hinder careers.

You're probably right, but, if you look at the Iggles remaining games and ours, this one looks pretty darned important. First tie breaker, you know.

Bill Parcells here. I had to use **'s account because I'm not registered at this site that Pittdawg told me about.

Don't worry guys, I won't rush Henry back.

And I really like letters to me in a forum. Some say I won't read them, but I do. I come here after practice every day.

I really appreciate the letters.

Thanks,

B. Parcells.

PS. Antonio Bryant was a schmuck and I didn't want him on the team, so get over it and quit whining about it. I was only offered either Quincy Morgan or a $25 gift card from PetSmart. Jerry wanted the gift card but trumped him.

Bill, I knew it was you all the time!

After all, you did briefly leave football as a young college coach to sell insurance, and you've been known to battle a few (H)urricanes as well.

Very clever of you tho, to fake us out with that pic of Babe Laufenberg,

Dear Bill,

lay off the ice chewing during press conferences, and lastly ill echo a previous poster, anytime we have a 1st down at the 12 or 9, try a play action pass on 1st down, i guarantee you will find alot of people wideopen.

Great thread, BP should not make this into a year long ordeal, let Henry have as much time as he needs, groins take time to heal or it will nag at him all year....

:laugh2:

Yeah, I knew the Laufenberg pic would throw some of you off. After all, if I really put my pic up, everyone would've been trying to tell me who to draft.

Hos would've been PM'ing me day and night with the virtues of Mike Williams and a couple of guys would've been on me constantly to fire my defensive coordinator (you know who you are).

I already switched to the 3-4 just so Nors would quit sending me PM's.
