Death Knell for Hurd?

"Sam is making progress, but it's going to be close," Parcells said. "I'm not sure exactly how this is going to fall out because I've got a couple of injuries at receiver, so I have to have somebody that can play who has experience."
Hurd needs to show improvement as a special teams performer if he is going to nail down a spot, Parcells said.
"He is running around lost right now," Parcells said. "He is willing, but he doesn't know where he is going. He tackled (teammate) Nate Jones the other day. He was supposed to be blocking somebody on (the Saints) and he knocked Nate flat."

I know the hurdaholics are rampant here, but this can't be good. Bill has cut alot of players for this very reason.

That's just Bill sending a message to T.O. that his protege is gone if he (TO) doesn't get healthy soon.

(just kidding guys) ;)

the way I see it, he either has to be out copper for the 5th wr slot, or we keep him and copper and carrry 6 wr's for the year. rector and austin are not making the team.

don't know how you could cut hurd at this point. no way he makes it through waivers for the PS.

Nah, he'll be OK.

If not we still have Glenn, Crayton, TO when he comes back, and Copper looks good.

Nah, I don't think so. I really think it boils down to either Hurd or Copper for one spot and either Green, Rector, or an outside vet for another. I think Copper is one of those progress stoppers and in the end Hurd will win that battle. I have no idea who will win the final spot between the other guys.

a few PCs ago BP said that it would be difficult to cut Hurd, so this isn't the 1st time, so I don't know

I think Hurd will stick. I dont see how you get better and healthier at the WR spot by getting rid of young healthy talent.

Addition by subtraction. It's all the rage.

I think it's a shot across the bow to Hurd. Bill's already commented that his ability to learn a position is 'superior.' I think he might even make the game-day roster if he can give anything on special teams the next few weeks.

I'd be happier with Hurd at 4th than any of the other WRs on the squad. Hurd looks like he might develop into a good 2nd WR down the line. Copper and Rector look like they'll only ever be good backups.

I can accept the cutting of Henson, I don't think I could handle the cutting of Hurd. The guy has done everything you could expect of a rookie wr. I can't see it either.

if Hurd wins the 4th WR job, I see him sticking, but if it's a competition between a good special teamer and him for the 5th job, I don't see it

This is the quote that made me think that if BP isn't confident about TO and Crayton's health he might still look to trade for a vet. Such a trade is the major threat Hurd faces.

Exactly... although he isn't excelling at ST, he has proven his work ethic and Parcells has taken notice.

I think he is just trying to get Hurd to broaden his abilities a bit and make himself more useful...
