Been a while since I've been here, busy building a new life in San Antonio.

With the Commanders coming into town, it made me think, "ya know, I bet there are some great dedicated Fan stories out there". So let me start and tell mine. Feel free to tell yours, that still brings you goosebumps still after all those years....

Here we go:

"It was 1980, I was in the Navy as an electronics technician, and my ship is deployed overseas. We had been at sea since April 1, and I knew that the first football game was coming up for the season. We are out in the middle of the Pacific on my Destroyer (DD-976), knew the time when the game against the Washington Commanders which meant I would have to be up in the middle of the night. no TV obviously out there, only Shortwave Radio. Now being and electronics tech, i worked on all the ships radios and radars. i borrowed one of my friends Boom-box's he bought in Japan that had a shortwave radio. Tuned in the Armed Forces Radio network, which was featuring the Cowboys/Commanders. put the boom-box antenna up against my 30ft whip antenna on the ship, and sat there outside at night listening to my beloved Boyz. people would walk by and ask me what the hell I was doing. They were impressed i was able to pick it up."

Got seriously homesick that night, but your Dallas Cowboys came through with the win in the first game of the season that year.

THAT, is a dedicated fan. me

Had to be Oct. 2nd, 1978. Dallas had won the Superbowl the year before. I had always been a huge fan, even as a kid. I read everything in the newspaper about them and hounded my father to take me to the games.

I watched Monday Night Football and they were playing the Commanders. The game was tight, a real defensive struggle. The score was 9-3 and the Commanders had the ball close to their goalline. Theisman took the snap and ran around in the end zone milking the clock. Randy White was barreling in on him, about to break several of his ribs when he stepped out of the back of the end zone. He held the ball up at White, who could not touch him.

Dallas lost 9-5.

I threw an ashtray at the front door of my apartment. The first time I'd ever really gone way overboard with losing. I had to replace the door and pay the maint. man to paint it.

Worth every penny. If it had been Joe Theisman, I'd have thrown two.

Boys Dolphins, Monday night in the mid 80's. I'm watching in my dorm room with my roommate in college. We had tied it up and it went into overtime, then Marino won it with a bomb.

I kicked the television and smashed the glass. Stupid is as stupid does, but my roommate got a new television out of it. :)

Grew up in the '90s as a dedicated 'Boys fan... in the San Francisco Bay Area. Enemy territory. Now I live on the east coast, in Giants territory. So I've defended the 'Boys against haters my entire life.

Got cussed out at the Oakland Coliseum when we beat the Raiders there in '95. I was 10. The loud cheering in my Aikman jersey probably had something to do with it. Tons of fights broke out after the game and fans threw crap at the Cowboys players when they were leaving the field. That forced that crappy stadium to change their alcohol rules... no more beer served after the 3rd quarter.

Became a fan at literally the perfect time... in the days leading up to the NFC Championship in Candlestick Park before we beat the 49ers and ended up winning Super Bowl 27. And I owe it all to my mom because she simply bought me a blue Cowboys sweatshirt. She didn't even know who or what the "Cowboys" were, she picked it out because it was blue and I liked blue. When my uncle, a die-hard 49ers fan, told me they were a football team and that I should trade it in for a 49ers sweatshirt, I declined. I hated the 49ers colors, logo and team name. The Cowboys colors, logo and team name were just soooo much cooler. So I watched the game with my uncle and I've been hooked ever since.

Grew up in Asia more than ten time zones away. I would get up at 2 AM or 4 AM to follow Cowboys games. I didn't find out the final score of Super Bowl 30 (Cowboys-Steelers) until years afterwards.

Very few people in Asia care about American football. I was that person who liked that American sport almost nobody else understood.

It's like being a diehard cricket fan in the US. People are just like, "Huh?"

Back when I was a kid, sometimes they would black out the games locally. Either me or my Dad would go out on the roof and use a pipe wrench to turn the big antenna towards Waco because they were not blacked out there. My Mom had to relay the signal as one of us turned the antenna while the other one watched the TV to "tune" the reception.

I remember around age 5 or 6, in Abilene, TX (early 80's), sitting in my dad's living room while watching my dad and my older brother agonize over a Cowboys game. I'm not even sure who Dallas was playing at the time, but we lost the game. Like it was yesterday, I still remember seeing my brother visibly upset. He literally broke down and cried that day.
It was then that I knew that the Dallas Cowboys meant a lot to our family. I've been a Cowboys fan ever since.

Mine hasn't happened yet. Next week during our MNF game I will be in Amsterdam. Time zone will force me to wake up at 2:30 am. I doubt they show the game on my hotel TV.

First order of business will be to get my iphone up on wifi. Then my son will get on FaceTime with his iPad in front of my TV at home.

He already knows the drill, and no trip for a happy meal that night lol.

I became a fan at Super Bowl X.

My brother was a Steelers fan. He was 7, I was 3. So naturally, I was rooting against him. Been a fan ever since.

I'm one of those weird people who remembers every little detail about my childhood, but dam if I can remember stuff from a few years ago. Seriously, he would run around with is Terry Bradshaw shirt. I hated it.

The next summer, I got my Cowboys helmet for tackle in the yard. Still have that helmet.

In my 20's, I used to drive around looking for an AM station broadcasting the game. THANK GOD FOR DIRECTV

Did you ever do that during a lightning storm?

We probably would have if necessary.

When I started dating my GF, I got to her house one day and she was on the roof, in the rain after dark putting up Christmas lights that were plugged in.

Normally during lighting storms, I go outside and hold a 1-iron up in the air. ;)

Yep, I always tried to get my Day to buy one of those electric remote antenna motor setups. They had them at Sears for about $60, but it wasn't his style to spend money on something like that.
