He Headed to Dallas

Dedrick Harrington, ILB, Dallas
Under new Coach Wade Phillips, the Cowboys will stick with their 3-4 defense, meaning they carry more linebackers on their roster than D-linemen. That should work in Harrington’s favor. At the two inside positions — Harrington’s most likely spot — Dallas starts Bradie James and Akin Ayodele. The only backups listed on the roster are 2006 rookie Bobby Carpenter and Oliver Hoyte. At the two outside spots, the Cowboys return veteran Greg Ellis and DeMarcus Ware (Missouri fans probably still tremble at the mention of the former Troy star.) Kevin Burnett and Junior Glymph are the backups, though Glymph is more of a pass-rushing D-end. Carpenter could also figure into the mix at outside linebacker, possibly freeing a spot for Harrington inside. The Cowboys used their first-round draft pick on Purdue defensive end Anthony Spencer, who is projected to be a pass-rushing outside linebacker, perhaps making Ellis expendable. Most undrafted FAs are longshots to crack the 53, but Harrington has a chance in Dallas’ favorable scheme. Harrington’s ability to play on special teams should help his cause, too.
