ABQ, what big contract are we going to get done on 700K?

We are talking about one of the best deep snappers in the league, who catches you a TD pass or two a season, gets you some tackles on special teams, and costs you 1 million.

You are not talking about a former super star, well removed from his glory days, but is still getting paid like it.

There is a big difference between getting under a million worth of quality and paying 5 million for it and getting around a million worth of quality and paying a million for it.

Parcells won't risk wins just to save 700K on the cap, he'll cut Robinson when he knows we have someone better.

The question you should be asking here BZ is not, who can you sign for 700K but how much is it going to take to resign Robinson? Do you think he's going to resign for what his last contract was or will he take more money if he can get it. What's the signing bonus going to be like? This guy is in the league 13 years now. If I were him, I'd try to make my last contract a good one.

To me, this is simple. If BP wasn't interested in replacing Robinson, why bring all these guys in off the street? Why not just let well enough alone? If the reason is purly for the sake of compatition, then why aren't any of those guy in TC competing?

I just think the writing is on the wall. I'm not saying this will happen or there's a directive to make it happen. I'm just saying that if the opportunity presents itself, we will do it.

God I'm tired of these people wanting to get rid of Robinson..

He's not going ANYWHERE.

Have we had any problems with our punts or kicks because of snaps in the past 2 years??

I don't remember any...

Doesn't make any sense, it would be ******** to cut him...

IYO. Is that not what you ment to say there spanky?

The salary cap is not currently the primary consideration regarding Robinson. I see the current issue as "whether Robinson is valuable enough to take a roster spot" that another more talented, versatile player might use. I do think that we will begin to bump up against the salary cap in the immediate future. We can always use the extra cap, especially if we rework current players contracts this year to accelerate their cap impact into this year. I do not see Robinson as a problem cap-wise this year, so I have ignored the salary cap impact as to the current year.

We brought in a couple last year too.

I'd say we can re-sign him for the same amount of money, I can't remember a bidding war for a LS, can you?:D

When it happens it is gonna be because we found someone better, I don't see the contract as a driving force behind bringing people into camp.

LS is a specialist, Parcells does not want to risk Robinson at TE, and it would be no different with anyone else they bring in.

Our kicker and punter are not lining up on offense or defense, LS is not really any different.

Yes, Dale Halestra to Philly. If you recall, Dale left the Cowboys for more money. It definatly does happen. Heck, we bought Robinson. Regardless, the only reason I mention cap is because you asked about the 700K. I think it is a consideration. I mean, you think 700K is not a big deal but if you take that approach, then what happens if the punter wants 700K? What about the kicker? The gunner? All of a sudden, your talking about 2.8 or some such. It's just a way of handling business.

To me, the fact that we bring long snappers in but never seem to keep them around in TC says something. If you were just bringing a guy in, why would you put pressure on? Doesn't make sense to me.

As far as someone better, well, I kinda disagree. If we found someone as good or even almost as good, think that between the cap, the age, and the possible roster situation, it could make a decision to go with someone else pretty easy.

Of course, this is just my opinion. It is clear that there are certainly other opinions on the subject.

I don't think we will replace Robinson if we find someone better BZ. I do think he could be cut if we found someone who could be the job of LS well enough to satisfy Parcells. I don't know if he has zero tolerance or has a certain percentage of snaps that work.

It's just common sense that if you had someone who looked like he might become a LB, OL etc and could LS as well as needed then you would look at that vs someone who is basically just a LS.

We've had punters who played QB. If you could save a roster spot then you would do it all things being equal play wise siding with the player who could contribute on the field and LS. I don't think you would look at it cap wise for just 700K.

What happens if your LS gets hurt playing LB or on KO coverage, and then your almost as good becomes, oh crap now what?

It's really simple, LS is too specialized that if you have a really good one you don't risk them. I think most teams realize that 53 is really 50 and anything you get from your LS besides snaps is gravy.

There is that side. But I can retort with what happens when Robinson goes down running down on punts which he does do. So you pays your nickel and you takes your chance.
