Can the experts in forum come up with a plan to take away or limit what saints do good on offense ..a.. La. bellicheck ... Also with whatever limited resources Marinelli and co have ?

Rest is up to offense, this game our O shud come out fairing on all cylinders and running game needs to be established early ...Ryan will gamble and we need to make him pay.

Comments ?

Attack the middle of the pocket early to set the tone. Don't let Brees get comfortable. Jam the receivers in the same manner we did vs Tennessee. Sustain drives with points on offense to help our defense.

First, I would think that middle linebacker dominates a measure of consistency for the defense with the Cowboys. If Rolando McClain can at least answer the call for muster, and play the base package, that will influence the Saint running game quite a bit.

That would allow Carter and Justin Durant to be used in most packages. This helps in coverages involving tight ends and running backs that slip out.

The wide receivers can be handled with combinations of Carr, Orlando Scandrick, and yea, Claiborne.

The safeties are good at closing into the box area, so both Church and Wilcox can handle the shorter route demands.

If on the outside, Anthony Spencer can add a half dozen pressures in the game, and both Selvie and Crawford can collapse the outside in relatively effective manner...then I can see a bend but not break being effective against Brees and a pretty fluid offense. There are problems with the New Orleans offensive line, so a tough picture and some pressure should be doable.

The Cowboys have to throw down, although, in all Red Zone opportunities.

On the offensive side, if Doug Free holds his side, then the Cowboys should be able to sustain enough drives to win.

To me, the biggest need is no first half turn-overs by Dallas...and make the Saints earn everything.

A package that I would like to see us run is a variation of nickel personnel with Moore subbed in for one of the safeties (but not necessarily lined up in the traditional safety spot). This would allow us to keep two linebackers on the field to help stop the run, while also putting our best coverage guys on the field. I would like to see Carr matched up with Graham in these situations in an attempt to force Brees to look elsewhere. Now obviously this would put additional stress on the secondary, but I feel that this personnel grouping would give us the best shot to slow down New Orleans 11 personnel.

Additionally, I would treat Graham as a receiver when deciding upon how to match up with the various groupings N.O. puts out. I would treat their 12 personnel almost like you would treat another teams 11 personnel (traditional nickel set) and take my chances with the run. The only time I'd really put three linebackers in is in goal line situations, or if they come out in a run-oriented personnel grouping(21 or 22 for instance).

Obviously there are counters to these ideas, but, at least initially, this is what I think I would like to see us do. I trust our coaches however, and am sure anything that they come up with will be far better thought out than what I just described.

Create as much pressure on Brees as possible and keep the TE's covered as much as possible.

It's real simple. This defense can not stop anyone with a decent QB. The Cowboys need to run the ball and dominate the clock, keeping the Saints offense off the field as much as possible.

Our best defense is a clock draining offense.

Throw in a few turnovers and a little luck and we might be close enough at the end so Romo can throw his game losing interception.

Fess up, Risen...one can't hide a deep set martial arts origin, that was followed by support at a grass roots level for the local Shanghai Club...

I guess you are saying that dominance in clock management, field position, and scoring is important...as it always has been.

Or, the defense may prove out bend and not break, but are tough in the Red Zone...as it is designed. And the offense puts it together and has the type of dominant game it is capable of doing. Bullcrap left at the curb...

The expert has spoken.

Such refinement and concise also...long suffering and dedicated and all.

Go figure an insult tag with no content but a preppie's vanity...and the word spoken was invoked...probably smelled the aroma of cooking bacon by Mom.

Actually going to hang around for the stadium flask to be passed around?

Now give up something beyond the Cliff Notes version of what is to occur, in retro...and see a recruiter when ever you get a chance.

let's see...
Why are the Cowboys in the thick of the NFC East race and not the doormat they were widely predicted to be?

Because they quietly have changed the way they go about their business on the field, particularly on offense. The Dallas offense — at least through three games — no longer is Romo trying to win the game by himself. After spending the past three seasons throwing the ball significantly more than they have run it, the Cowboys enter Sunday’s game against the Saints having rushed the ball 95 times and passed it 89 times.

Now, to establish that vantage's observation point...

You do not have to be a Cowboys fan nor do you have to be from Dallas to have been aware of the ominous 2014 forecast for the NFL team that Jerry Jones manages.

Dark days were forecast for Dallas, mostly because of what was expected to be a severe lack of defense and quarterback Tony Romo making too many mistakes in an effort to make up for the rest of the team’s deficiencies.

A month into the season, though, a funny thing has happened to the Cowboys en route to the NFC East basement: They’re 2-1 entering Sunday’s home game against the Saints.

Why are the Cowboys in the thick of the NFC East race and not the doormat they were widely predicted to be?

Turnovers - cause them and don't turn the ball over ourselves. Run the ball and keep their offense off the field.

In an interview with the “Dan Patrick Show” this week, former NFL coach and current NBC analyst Tony Dungy outlined how the Cowboys should play to beat the Saints.

“The New Orleans Saints offense is [going to] put some pressure on you,” Dungy said. “They’re [going to] move the ball … score some points. So you have to be patient. You’ve [got to] stick with your gameplan and beat them the way your team is capable of winning — and that is running Murray, keeping the score down, keeping the ball, forcing them to put eight in the box and then throw your one-on-ones to [receiver] Dez Bryant.”

“If they play that way, I think they can beat New Orleans. If they go in thinking, ‘We’ve got to outscore them, we’ve got to turn this thing loose,’ that’s not the way they can win.”

The Cowboys surely are going to try to stick to their recent patter and run the ball in an effort keep Drew Brees and the prolific Saints offense off the field as much as possible. Ryan knows this and will try to shut down Murray — more importantly make him fumble.

The Cowboys have been working on some new things to try to help Murray secure the ball better. After losing just three fumbles in his first three seasons, he has lost three in three games this season. Oddly, all three have occurred in the first quarter of games.

“I’m not going to make a big deal out of it. I know what I have to do, and it’s not something that I’ve had issues with in the past, and it won’t happen now,” Murray told the Dallas media this week. “[I’ve] got to get a few things corrected and move on from it. It’s been different angles, just different things happened — kind of bad luck.’”

Though the Cowboys have not exactly been dominant on defense — they are on pace for a franchise-low in sacks — their defense has been better than expected after they finished last in the league last season — giving up the most yards in the league, the most in team history and the third-most in NFL history.

Entering Week 4, the Dallas defense ranked 22nd in the league...

I saw...tackling, gap control, and no busted coverage know where you have to be.....as far as game plan I agree with previous post best defense is a long sustaining drive with a balanced attack maybe favoring the run a little...last year Ingram had a great game for Saints I look to Murray Bryant and Witten to have a good day if we wanna be successful witten not so much pass catching but setting the edge like he did last week in st louis
