Defending the Eagles' Passing Attack

Play the same way they've been playing their defense, but put in a contingency plan w/ BJ on Ertz.

Won't be easy. Here's what I would do:
  • Put Byron Jones on Zach Ertz - he is Wentz's primary weapon. Byron is our best pass defender.
  • Put Chido/Brown on Jeffrey/Tate - Travel or not; these are good receivers - so are our CBs.
  • Put Lewis on Sproles - Another Cowboy killer, but Lewis was effective against Kamara, a similar RB.
  • Put Jaylon at Spy - Don't let Wentz escape and kill us on an improv play.
  • Blitz early - make Wentz uncomfortable, like we did Brees.
  • Bring Irving in mostly on 3rd Down - keep him fresh, allow him to knock off rust; batted balls are key.
Eagles seem to be getting into a rhythm in the passing game these past 2 games. Playing a similar blueprint to the Saints and causing early disruption to Wentz, especially up the middle, will be key to the defense getting off the field (I hope).
All sounds good but I don't think Irvin is playing. I would definitely Blitz early and often and we should be able to shut down the Run, contain Ertz and Tate we should be okay

I agree he Jeffrey is worthy of more than average attention at all times. Hoping Irving shows up but not expecting him to with that injury it might be another two weeks. IMO pressure up the middle will make a huge difference in this game. Jason Peters got rolled up on late in the game on Monday, he will be listed as day-to-day, but if not this is major.
Since Golden Tate went to the Eagles, Jeffery has been a COMPLETE NON FACTOR for the Eagles.

Good plan. First I've heard of Irving actually playing but the rest looks sound. Wentz is tough when he roles out, not looking to run much with the knee. Have to at least limit the effectiveness of Wentz to Ertz.

Assignment football
Ends need to know to not let Wentz escape. He makes mistakes inside the pocket
Hit him when we can and then hit him again
Be physical with Ertz and Jeffrey
Sproles is an X factor

Wittens' analysis of Ertz...play him tight at the line, have to beat him at the line, bump him, disrupt the timing and his route. Play tight coverage not off and then it will be hard enough. We don't need the fastest on him, do need the most physical, that may be Brown if he can stay away from holding

I know this is too much to ask based on what I've seen so far but I want to see more of Tavon Austin in this offense if he's ready to go. Cooper, Gallup and Austin, that is a very good trio of WR's

I agree with this, not the OP's concept of putting Byron on Ertz. I'd rather have Byron neutralize Tate. Honestly, I'd not make assignments and play more base and take the matchups as they come, with the exception here. Zone shell with man/zone concepts and get the right pressure.

This defense is good, let it do what it does best.
Tate is usually on the right side of the offense and Byron is on the left side. He only moves across when his man takes a route in that direction. It will be Chido and Tate mono e mono.

:oldcouple:

On passing down would love to see Jaylon at the line beat up Ertz once in awhile and then let Byron take him after release. Then Jaylon become either the spy or pass rush after.

I had thought about this yesterday and the biggest change i'd suggest is leave Jones at CB and put Brown on Ertz.

Didn't LVE get an INT against the iggles? He does it again.

As usual, I think our LBs are the key to this game vs Ertz and the pick-and-screen short passing game Wentz and the Eagles like to run. Our CBs can cover Tate and Jeffrey easily and if the pass rush can get home against NO (great line and QB with a very fast release), they can get home vs Philly. Ertz and Sproles are the guys who really worry me.

I did not realize that is he injured or did Tate just take up his reps?
Nope. Totally healthy. He’s getting the snaps, they just aren’t going his way at all.

Don't get to complicated. This game will be decided by Dak's ability to pass the ball and the Eagles ability to run the football. The Eagles have two glaring weaknesses. Their horrid pass defense and their run game. We have to take advantage of both.

Best pass defense starts with a great pass rush.

Football 101.
Exactly!,,,Now,,,,our fellows of the FORUM have seemingly bestowed the footballish capabilities of DREW BREES & allthewhile wearing the unwashed jock strap of a Kenny Stabler:eek:,, UPON THIS Carson Wentz CLOD,,,:lmao2:o_O:lmao2:

Stuff the run game early and often, Pederson will start to abandon it and then neutralize Ertz. Wentz gets tunnel vision for him and hasn't been very good at making secondary reads.
