Defense a passing Grade?

If this were week 1, I'd leave thinking Dallas has a decent defense and Zeke was going to rush for 400 yards when they face the Seahawks.

Do you give the Defense a passing grade for its performance against the Giants?

They forced a turnover and also scored on it. Also forced a stop in the 4th. But the Giants didn’t punt for the 1st time until midway through the 3rd Quarter. Plus they are also one of the worst Offenses in Football.

So do you think it’s fine as long as we got the Win or still very much Concerned?
no, this was another fail. they gave up 27 points to a team averaging less than 12. not acceptable.

They faced the lowest scoring O in the league and what the Giants offense needed was facing a defense like the Cowboys. The defense played better but they should have but the they still put pressure on the offense to score by giving up 34 to a team averaging 11 a game. The O gave up 7 so I guess I should only hold 27 against the defense.

This is just like how the Cowboys wins have been measured, against what teams?

The Cowboys D has given up 5 TD passes one week to 307 yards rushing the next week to giving up 34 to the worst scoring O in the league and this was at home in front of fans.

Here's the thing about this D, it's bad. We just don't know what it's worse at. We think it will get better with some of the returning players from that crappy defense from last year. And there are some pretty good offenses yet to come and the Cowboys don't have that QB that passed for over 450 yards in 3 straight games.

Defense a passing grade? Nope, believe I'll pass on this defense. And I think at my age I could get a pretty damned good QBR against them.

Go hide behind the chain saws.

Stop with this. Sure, the 7 scored on the int don't count but trying to rationalize away the other 7 because it was turnover in our territory is ridiculous. That Giants O was brutal and I bet a better defense likely would have held them to only 3.

The Giants averaged around 9 points a game. Even if you want to be the easiest grader in the world and not count 14 points, they still gave up 20 to arguably the worst offense in the NFL up until that point. Further, when you dig into the stats, it shows what a putrid performance it was.

- Giants were one of the worst at converting 3rd downs. We let them convert over 50%.
- Jones had his best rating and QBR game against this defense
What grade did I give them?

I was thinking D- ....what the hell do you want?
Jeez

Their offense sucks, we know it.

They had also faced several good defenses so (probably the 4 best of any team in the NFL...Steelers, Bears, 49ers, Rams. The Rams held us to 17, btw.

Just as our offensive numbers have been skewed up by facing poor defenses, theirs have been skewed down by facing strong ones.

Still doesn't mean they don't suck.

I think a win gets you to a D- at least. They did create a turnover and score which could bring it to a C- but it was the worst offense having their best game. I'll stick with the D-.

Worst part of all this...
Did any of you see the Raiders VS Chiefs?

Jeff Heath made a game changing interception for the Raiders.

The Raiders also stunned the Chiefs with a great defensive performance with a bunch of random draft picks and FA Acquisitions. They don’t have any Star players on Defense, neither do the Giants. But they can constantly can put on a good Defensive showing for a couple of games.
Maxx Crosby is a star.

Yep. I can’t imagine what Kyler Murray will do to us next week. May get really ugly, very early.

When you look at our Schedule, the only games were our defense may put up a Respectable performance will probably be against the NFC East.

Hell no. This the type of performance I'd expect against a good offense. They made Garrett look good and Daniel Jones to a extent.

Sadly...this might be their best performance of the season. Jaylon Smith probably played arguably one of the best games of his career.

Cringe-worthy

But I really do expect steady improvement, with a few hiccups.
  1. They'll finally start understanding a fairly complex scheme after no offseason
  2. Should be getting a few players back...but we did lose Hill
  3. The level of offenses--on average--will be lower (mainly due to 5 games vs NFC East)
  4. Our offense will be facing far more defenses with the opposite of what they have been facing; they'll see better pass defenses but easier run defenses (with a couple of exceptions). SO, we should be able to lean on the run game more--which radically helps the defense.
Of course, as bad as they are , it's easy to have some improvement.

If they have a similar performance this coming week it'll give me hope. The fact that the giants had 1 td all year coming into the game says a lot about our best defensive performance of this season.

No

they were below average today the giants may have only scored 2 offensive tds but they moved the ball up and down the field with ease

the defense got a stop in the 4th and a fumble ret for a td but inbetween that they werent very good

Very concerned. I did see some good things but still saw players who looked lost at times.

Hell no, that offense scored what 13 points as a high prior to that game. We gave up almost another 40 burger.

The EFFORT was there. That's about it.

We didn’t even meet Daniel Jones turnover average. We barely beat the worst offense in football and people want to talk about about Jaylon, Dlaw and our defense?! For christs sake...unfortunately I think Jerry thinks like some of you and assumes we’ve turned the corner. Beating Washington and Philthy will only reinforce that mindset which is why we’ll still suck at the end of the season.

No

But to be fair, the offense gave up 14 of those points....and 7 directly
True. AND Special Teams lucked out with flag on the fake field goal. And again on the "pick play".

I'm not saying that neither one of those plays should have not been flagged, but....

If the Cowboys got flagged like the ST play was, we would be hearing how the refs always screws over the Cowboys, and ....

There is no way in heck Garrett designed that pick play. The guy doesn't know how to, on top of he refuses to give his guys any advantage like that. "If you can't just beat the man in front of you, you deserve to lose" is all I think Garrett hears in his head.

The Cowboys D caught more than a few breaks from the most turnover player in the NFL (which is factually true) and playing against one of the worst offenses in modern times (more objective, but still more true than not).

I give them a D-. They are bad; really bad. Nolan and his assistants and the players better get this turned around soon or we're going nowhere fast.

Against a team with a 0-4 record coming in? Good lawd...ask me this question when the Dallas Cowboys play a team with talent and well coached.

Go Cowboys!

I actually expected dominance in 2 areas. The Dallas WRs vs their secondary and this d line(I know, I must've been crazy) to be even much more dominant than it showed.

To answer your question, extreme concern going forward regarding the defensive front 7.

That was as poor a group as theyll face on offense. And after the week's press ridicule I expected much more.
