Defense after 4 Games

Each game it seemed they improved a little bit in different areas.

Yesterday, in the 2nd half was much better. Run defense seems it improved overall this year. With the exception of the QB's running all over us. But they did kept Stroud in check a little better.

Pass defense still an issue. Still too many wide open receivers. Too many long plays downfield. And yesterday, there was too many near misses as well. Even though a few may have been caused by some finally much needed pressure. But I can't say that for sure.
Maybe someone with All 22 Access can take a look.

Still giving up too many points though.
TB & GB could help in not giving up that many points as both teams have not looked all that great. But you never know. And I still do not trust this defense yet.

But I feel some very slight encouragement. As I said, each week something has improved a little. And getting JPJ and getting some injured players back will only help.

This is the thread I was looking for. They’re getting better. It’s slow, but it’s there.

They can stop the rush, just need to stop the passing game. I think we’re one legitimate pass rusher away from having a defense that can allow our offense to make the games unreachable for opposing offenses.

Yes.
But is that pass rusher on the team and needs to emerge.
Need to see the next 2 or 3 games.
Gary and Q. Williams looked much better yesterday.

But I think Coach took what he learned, and used it against Houston, we played to win, not scared

Buffalo has scored the best at 127 points

But we have also allowed over 100 points scored
So it’s still about the defense
If we can get Ravel, healthy, and bland back to the nickel, that’s going to help
Then we can move Caleb around again

Stupid stats, anything can be construed how you want it to look. But of course you and some will gloat over this.

Bland was horrible yesterday. Because they would not throw JPJ's way. We should get Revel back and Durant, and Thompson will be back in a few weeks or so.

Lets see what happens then.

Agree 100% but we need a pass rusher in the worst way. A player who can turn the pressure into sacks.

I want to be optimistic. But we all sat through that game, and Stroud of all ppl was tearing this D up. Texans have a bad OL and give up sacks and can't run the ball. Some of our 'improvement' could be attributed to a poor opponent. A good QB and OC will destroy us.

We will see the same thing every week (easy completions, long drives, 30 pts) until we get a pass rush.

We are still giving up too many chunk plays but I'm not too concerned. The secondary is still a work in progress but Porter addition will be huge. Find a pass rusher and pressures will become sacks and we will see improvement in chunk plays.

Eh, if there's improvement, it's slow.

The Texans offense of course got their #1 back in Collins, and he was sorely missed. But the secondary is only as good as it's weakest link.
JPJ may shut down one side, but the Texans(and others) can pick on 2 other corners or safeties for chunk gains.

I'm encouraged by Williams being more of a force in the middle, but man we could really use even a "good" pass rusher from the edge.
EZE is getting better, but IMO probably 1+ year away if at all, to converting pressures to sacks.
The rest of the edge group is either TBD or Gary who had a decent game.

I haven't broken down the game yet. How many snaps did Porter play? When he was in there how did Bland do? The thing about Collins is he's their Lamb, a 1000 yard receiver, and he's been out since the first game against the Bills.

JPJ looks poised to have a massive impact on this defense.

AS I just wrote in another post, CP has a connection with Pettite. Remember the scheme he used with the Jets. Put Revis on an island, rolled coverage to the other side. I think we are going to see that with Porter.

But they actually did well against the Texans…..and by well i mean they did below average which is a hoot better than being bottom tier awful
