Defense after 4 Games

It’s still really early in the season,
The next three primetime games,
On the world stage,
If Ravel can come back to the corner and bland go back to the nickel
Caleb Downs, that changes where he plays because he doesn’t have to help BLAND
And Joey Porter Junior he should be solid on his side
It’s the cliché. Does the front four help the back end?
Or does the back end, help the front?

We’re pretty balanced, that doesn’t mean we’re great on the back and front
I’m just saying we’re equally talented, we need each other
I’m having fun ,and liking what I’m seeing.
I’m disappointed about Baltimore still, because I know we could’ve won that game
But I think Coach took what he learned, and used it against Houston, we played to win, not scared
I definitely noticed a change in Schottenheimer’s red zone play calling. He didn’t abandon the running game in the red zone.

It’s been a criticism of mine about him for some time now but hopefully last game’s failure was a lesson he’s learned from.

Cowboys have scored 122 points
Buffalo has scored the best at 127 points

But we have also allowed over 100 points scored
So it’s still about the defense
If we can get Ravel, healthy, and bland back to the nickel, that’s going to help
Then we can move Caleb around again
This!! Getting a couple of key stops that prevent the scoring on every drive and that the offense keeps pace with the other team prevents what looks it should be a blowout gives the illusion of improvement.

The defense ranks 29th in pts, 30th yds allowed, 31st, in rushing yds allowed, and tied for last in takeaways and 3rd from last in sacks. The offense on the other hand is tied for 2nd in points (2 missed FGs or 1 TD away from being 1st).

On offense, there are maybe 4-5 really bad plays over 4 games, whereas, the defense gives up that many in every 1-2 possessions.

Homers are hilarious

This defense is atrocious and its because we have no pass rush. Our DC prioritizes the backend so this is the result.

Unless EZE and Malachi become much better, this will be the result

The thing you look for in a defense that has been bad for a long time is to get to some level of positive consistency.

We have seen a little improvement. But the one consistency that must change is giving up nearly 30 points a game. (It’s actually 28 ppg through 4 games)

If our offense has to score 30 or more every week we won’t make the playoffs. Points per game is the stat I’m most watching.

We are 3rd worst in YPG and 4th worst in PPG. So, sure, improvement. lol

We are lucky to be 2-2

I think the concern over our defense is a little premature. It's only been four games. If you look around the league, many teams are struggling. The Bills and the Lions have to score 30+ points for them to win. The Texans project as one of the top-ranked defenses and we just hung 34 points on them.

Consider that our secondary has been decimated by injuries; and we have a freshman DC learning on the job. It's going to take some time. Adding Porter should help, but we still need a pass rusher and solid LB that can stay healthy. This was never a one year fix.

Also, take away that comedy of errors that occurred in the final minute of last week's game, we should be 3-1.

Everyone knew we needed to play to win it in regulation (Baltimore). The question is why a guy who's been around the game all his life thought anything else.

“Super” intelligence told me James Houston got zero snaps on D. Only special teams

Is that correct? I feel he’s our 2nd best at that from the edge…and he ain’t great

Each game it seemed they improved a little bit in different areas.

Yesterday, in the 2nd half was much better. Run defense seems it improved overall this year. With the exception of the QB's running all over us. But they did kept Stroud in check a little better.

Pass defense still an issue. Still too many wide open receivers. Too many long plays downfield. And yesterday, there was too many near misses as well. Even though a few may have been caused by some finally much needed pressure. But I can't say that for sure.
Maybe someone with All 22 Access can take a look.

Still giving up too many points though.
TB & GB could help in not giving up that many points as both teams have not looked all that great. But you never know. And I still do not trust this defense yet.

But I feel some very slight encouragement. As I said, each week something has improved a little. And getting JPJ and getting some injured players back will only help.
that Cover 3/4 defense is ugly.

They’re awful

But they actually did well against the Texans…..and by well i mean they did below average which is a hoot better than being bottom tier awful
Lucky for us, the Texans played Cover 4 almost every play in the 2nd half.

If our offense has to score 30 or more every week we won’t make the playoffs.
Why are ya'll worried about the playoffs? You aren't going anywhere in the playoffs with this team unless there is a near miraculous improvement. Look for the marginal improvement that gives you hope for next year. Just enough to keep you firmly in the Jerry Cycle.

Truth.

You do know that the Houston O has been struggling mightily all year, right? This was Stroud's first good game.

Stroud had 11.2 (!!!) yards per attempt. The Rams were best in the league last year at 7.9 lol

Run defense does not matter when that happens.

Dallas doesn't have a stud defensive end (war daddy). Thats what this defense needs.
