Defense debuts a dance routine. Can NFL "Haka" dance be far behind?

From Bloggingtheboys.com last night, from afternoon practice:

"The defense debuted its "routine," a preening, strutting, barking group dance which preceeded each series. The networks will no doubt pick up on it, if the defense doesn't get ahead of themselves and try naming it, trademarking it, building a song around it or marketing it in some way."

Which made me think of the Tongan-inspired "Haka" dance that they do over at Euless Trinity HS. You would get an quick unsportsmanlike in the NFL if you tried it on the field, but why not get pumped on the sidelines before each series? Why not inspire bloodcurdling fear into the enemy?

I can see Brooking making all these faces and shouting. But I would be afraid of all that energy being wasted before the defense even got on the field.

When I first saw this yesterday.....my first thought was.....please God let this just be a training camp motivational thing.

For those of you who did not see it......your not missing anything:)

So, should the song be Who Let the Dogs out or Hound Dog? Savage Sam, or Old Yellow? Ok zoners, time to put your thinking caps on, and see if you can come up with a slogan and a song for our new style defene dance they are doing.

If you write good enough song, slogan, etc, might be legendary like Doomsday or Steel Curtain, or the song the Bears played in 85, so come on zoners, lets come up with that slogan or song. So, we can say, cowboyszone came up with the song or slogan.
;)

Last thing this team needs is a "Super Bowl Shuffle". It worked for the 85 Bears because nobody cares about the Bears overall nationally. Bears fans are like cheeseheads in Green Bay; the dumber or more quirky their celebrations get the more the fans and media eat them up and praise the teams for it. But in Dallas that kind of thing will get you arrested without probable-cause by the corrup media-police. PASS!

Understand, I would say only do it, if our defense is rocking and rolling with huge sacks, fumbles, interceptions, then youve got to label it something to me. But like you said, in a way, dont rush things, let them happen first, we have to see what the defense really does this year. :)

I feel the same about this as the endzone celebration as long as you are not picking up 15 yard penalties in the process I don't care. This stuff just does not rank high on my list of what is important.

Yeah, avoiding what happened a few years ago - where big heads, big attitude and self-anointing themselves as champions preceded real production on the filed - would be a good thing for 2010.

I'm a bit fearful of that as well. I hope the guys learned from that experience. I think there is a fine line between having confidence in yourself and teammates and being over confident. Just listening to guys like Romo I think they know that no one is going to hand them the SB if they want it they have to go out and earn it.

The Haka is a Maori dance, not Tongan.

Correct.....and the only professional sports team I care to see performing it is the All Blacks.

The Haka is a traditional Maori dance. That is not what the Cowboys are doing, I'm not sure what they're doing. I just posted a video of the Haka.

Have a little cultural toleration.

That is the video I was looking for, anyone have that?

I may be biased having played and watched rugby, but the Haka is one of the coolest traditions in all of sports IMO. Those guys are friggin intense. After playing against some pretty good rugby players, none of which would even make a "practice squad" for the All Blacks, there is no way I'd want to mess with those guys....and they certainly don't mean it to be "fun". They want to ****ing kill you.

The Haka for football? NO thanks.

There is more than enough song and dance in the NFL as it is already....and that's exactly what that type of thing would become here....a joke.

I'd laugh if I saw that being performed in front of me, as if to scare me before competition. :lmao:

When I heard "Haka" dance, I was thinking more along the lines of the University of Hawaii football team doing their traditional tribal dance.

Same thing. They dropped it, however, because Haka isn't traditional Hawaiian.
