Yep. Just two years ago the Tampa defense shut down Mahomes, Reid, etc. in the super bowl to win a championship.

There simply wasn’t an elite defense in this year’s super bowl.
Philly had a good defense , but didnt show up in SB ( atleast in 2nd half ), without a good D they couldnt steam roll so many teams in the regular season and playoffs.

At the end of the day it's an offensive game, and in todays NFL, a great offense usually beats a great defense.

This isn't the 90s or early 2000's anymore where you could win with great defensive play. You're not allowed to play defense the same way anymore and the game has been geared more towards the offensive side of the ball while more rules have been put in place that make playing defense harder.

These defenses were #1 and #2 in the NFL in sacks and both teams put up at least 30 points.

Jalen Hurts accounted for 4 TDs while Mahomes won the Super Bowl MVP and played lights out. It's a QB game now more so than it's ever been. As Warren Sapp said recently "You train to be within 1 score at the end of the game now and you let your 100 million dollar QB take you home". That's exactly what we saw last night.

A good defense is a great thing to have, but if you don't have the offense then you don't have anything.
not sure i fully agree....the Sheagles defense let their team down big time....they were positioned like no other team to put brakes on a wounded Mahomes and they could not......of course i was so happy Chiefs won

but they were up by 10 at half scoring 24 and 35 total.....i dont care....if your offense can score 35 and you have top defense in league then get emotionally fired up to crush the opponents offense....they did not

even get one sack and finished the year with 70 sacks......i hate Sheagles and so glad they lost....but it was their defense that dropped ball in more ways than one

arguably the critical plays in that game were defensive ones so frankly your case is weak
the last second DPI was pure garbage by refs and i hate Sheagles.....i hate when refs help determine who wins by making very bad calls.....but i am so glad they did in this one

funny how quickly people forget that Mahomes was seriously hampered by injury, which is what helped the bucs to " Shut him down."

have you ever played sports? A little "Tug," completely stops a players momentum.... watch the play, see the jersey tug.... and get this, the player himself said HE HELD HIM. So the player himself says he held him and you say the call is bs?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

If the Chiefs don't score 34 points they lose.
Yet you’re touting offense only. Hurts’ fumble and superb special teams play accounted for 14 points for KC. Add stellar half time adjustments by their defense and stupid in game coaching by Nick Sorry-iani and you have a fun filled collapse, Mahomes didn’t even throw for 200yds. Chiefs won all 3 phases in the second half easily.

2 things. First, I specifically said THIS YEAR HE WAS ELITE. Her was clearly elite THIS YEAR.

You do understand what it takes to be the MVP in the NFL, yes? Name me an NFL LEAGUE MVP that wasnt absolutely ELITE in the year they won it. Name me a single 1... Ill wait.

And I dont give one damn about a supporting cast. You either play elite or you dont. His running game was good, his TE is good and his WRs are good. So??? You telling me Joe Burrow doesnt have as good or better offensive weapons?
sorry. how can you be elite, just one year..... that's not the definition of elite. so you are trying to redefine elite.

and again, mvp and elite aren't the same thing. you are getting all mixed up.

Just like this year.

Really, what shut the KC offense down was that Todd Bowles completely changed what he was doing on defense. The Tampa defense played completely differently than what Reid and Mahomes had game planned for two weeks.

Trent Dilfer talked about it on the Colin Cowherd show the Monday after that Super Bowl. Tampa changed up how they were playing all of their coverages.

again, in my book one season does not elite make....they play at a very high level, MVP as you called it for one year....do it multiple times and then you are elite.
Deshan watson had somewhat better stats than Mahomes in 2020, team went 4-12. was Watson elite? did he play at elite level? Winston did it in 2019, Tampa went 7-9. was he Elite?

Chiefs and Eagles both top 5 in passing yards allowed per play.

Eagles top 10 in most (maybe all) defensive stats.
Turnovers, INTs, Yards, etc.

damn.... I didnt know that Watson and Winston won MVPs....lol. Winston NEVER had anything close to an elite season, ever. Like I said, name me a single NFL MVP that didnt play elite for that season.... you cant.
