Defense is way too talented to look that bad...

Except the defense didn't give up the TD after Romo's fumble. And Romo's int would have given the Eagles a field goal even had the defense stopped them. Add in the bogus interference call on Henry, and I'd say the defense legitimately gave up about 20-24 points. Eagles have a tremendous offense. What's most important is that the defense stiffened in the second half and stopped the Eagles when they absolutely had to.

We had a lot of mistakes but we wont see McNabb 16 times and this defense is not a finished product by any means.
The coverage last night was really good for the most part but the pass rush was having trouble getting to McNabb consistenly.

Why is this not a finished product? We are in the 2nd year with this version of the 3-4 and the 5th of a 3-4 period. We should have this defense down by now.

I care about what happened to the Eagles defense. It's a great example of what can happen to a good defense when they play a great offense in an emotionally charged heavy-weight fight of a game. And they didn't fare as well as ours did.

I don't think Philly made our defense look silly at all, but I'm curious which of their two missing WRs are going to start in front of Desean Jackson when they return?

At some point, you're going to have to acknowledge that other teams can have good offenses, too. If you can't consistently pressure their QBs, they'll complete passes on you. Good defenses will have games where they give up points, but they stop teams when they have to make plays to win the game. Great defenses stop everybody. This isn't a great defense.

Ok so say they played without their number 2 and 3 receiver. Does it really make that much difference to justify how our defense was torched by a team with 1 receiver and 1 runningback? Don't try to compare to our offense. Crayton has consistently beaten teams for 2 years and has phenomenal hands. Witten is as good as most 2 and 3 wr's in the league. Along with Barber we have Felix and what most "experts" say is the best oline in the league. We SHOULD be torching teams defenses. Ours got toasted by a team with 2 weapons and we have 4 probowlers on our defense plus 2 or 3 others that should be probowlers. Sorry but there is no excuse for how our defense was b%$&@slapped.

They have many weapons

McNabb
Westbrook
L.J. Smith
Desean is better than any of their recievers

And most importantly ...... Romo gave them 14 points.

Had Romo not screwed up because of his bandaged hand, it would not have even been a close game.

Oh well, since you don't acknowledge it, I guess.... oh wait, no I still don't give a crap about your opinion.

I think you've more than proved what your level of football knowledge is... or isn't rather.

The last thing in the world I want to do is side with Daboys... However, I do think it's a little weird that you don't count Jackson's TD against our defense. The defense gave it up whether he decided to give it back or not....

People do overrate the individual players on this defense, or at least some do. We have a DPOY candidate in Ware. We have one of the better corners in Newman. We now have a HOF-type ILB who is past his prime in Zach. The rest are just pretty good players.

Especially up front, we don't have the dominating monsters like people seem to think we have. Tank is a good player who got a lot of headlines because of his legal troubles, but he was never a great player. Canty is very solid, but not an Albert Haynesworth type. Spears is just pretty good. Ratliff is a great effort guy who is getting better all the time, but not a Jamaal Williams in his prime or Vince Wilfork type NT.

Point being that we're pretty talented, sure. But some people talk as if we have 11 hall of famers on this defense, and we don't.
which is why Jerry better think long and hard before he gives Chris Canty 50M. Look at Oakland...the money they gave Javon Walker, the money they gave DeAngelo Hall, the money they gave Kelly (which I think is the contract Canty and his people want). We cannot just give big money to players that are "just a guy". We HAVE to make Ware a lifetime Cowboy...but like I have said a hundred times...if Canty wants more than Ratliff got...I would let him go and extend Spears and Hatcher to sensible contracts. Keeping ample cap space is necessary for flexibility when a "special" player becomes available. And with TO up in age.....we will HAVE to add eitehr Roy Williams/Boldin/Chad Johnson this offseason....and don't be surprised if one of theme gets added before the trade deadline if it becomes abovious we are going to need someone to relieve the pressure off of TO

I don't know who covered LJ but I never heard his name. Did he play? If he did, whoever covered him did a good job. And as a side note, I think our secondary played better after Watkins took over for Roy (here come the fireworks).

Well, I guess it's pretty futile to try and convince anybody that our defense is not horrible so I'll just let this thing play out.

The one thing I would say here is lets just wait and see what happens this weekend. Pittsburgh is generally considered a pretty good defensive team. Currently, I think they are ranked #4 in total defense after week 2. Philly has them on the schedule next. Lets see what Pittsburgh does against Philly before we start firing our Coach and trying to throw guys under the bus.

Not to mention too Romo overthrew a wide open Witten early in the 4th(which would have put us up 38-37, instead of cutting it 37-34).

Frankly-I'm sick and tired of everyone saying how the Eagles lost b/c they made some costly mistakes, when, in face, we made the SAME mistakes they did, if not more.

Bottom line-we won, I'm happy, it's only week 2, we have time to polish things up in the coming weeks, we'll be healthy in a month or so...time to move on.

Noone's trying to convince themselves this defense isn't horrible.

Look-it's only week 2, not week 12. There's still a LONG way to go in this marathon race. We have time to improve/polish things up.

So the only thing we can do is be patient and let things play out by itself.

I might agree with this if I accepted the fact that our defense played poorly against Philly.

I don't believe that so..........

Lets see what happens against Pittsburgh.

Factor in the Eagles being a Division Foe, they have the Biggest O-Line in the League who are very Solid, A Healthy and mobile QB along with the best all purpose back in the league, now spot that unit 14 points and the final score looks worse then the way the defense play. IMO.

Romo also overthrew a wide open Witten early in the 4th, which would have made it 38-37(and we blew another opportunity on this same drive when Crayton didn't make a clean block that would have sprung Felix loose). We ended up kicking a FG instead.

With all the talk how McNabb was missing open receivers in the game, less not forget the number of times Romo missed open receivers.

So, Your answer to improving the defense is more offense.

No one is saying this defense is horrible, but I'd say the coaching is suspect because of the quality corners we do have. The coach is too passive and not allowing corners to challenge receivers.

They need to be more aggressive and press when they blitz half the time at least. PRESSURE. These corners can do it and the pass rushers are there to get the QB.

Actually, our D only gave up 23. Two of the Eagle's touchdowns were on Romo and a very poor pass interference call.

Yeah I know.

I by no means think our D played well (although it would have looked much better if we could actually hold on to McFlabb when we got to him). But giving up 23 (legitimate) points isn't that bad considering how good their offense is.

My biggest complaint about the D is that we got them in 2nd or 3rd and long situations a few times but still gave up 1st downs. When we get a team in 2nd and 18, it should be 2 more plays then punt. I was surprised we stopped them at the end of the game, but a horrible play call by Fat Andy helped us out there a bit.
