Defense reaaally shaky

Pretty much 3 main areas of a stout defense and they represent 3 very key areas of weakness for the 'boys at present.

Run stopping

Let's face it, Ferguson down removes a big cog in the DL at NT...Whether or not Ratliff or Ayodele can help fill that gap remains to be seen but the Giants' success with the run and their seldom used Ward doesn't bode well, IMHO.

Pass Rush

We can loop this concern from year to year...After Game 1, it remains a concern...And talk of the stunts and blitz packages that was going to make Wade's 3-4 so much more 'free' than Parcells' is not bearing fruit yet...Even some innuendo that somehow Ware was doubled and/or held has proven to be inaccurate as he was largely 1v1...Where's the pass rush going to come from?...Ware?...Spencer?...Maybe a still rehabbing Ellis?...I hope we find the pass rush soon...And against a Miami team that is not firing on all cylinders on offense, hopefully we'll see them apply better pressure.

Strong Secondary

Losing one of the top corners in the league in Newman sure makes things a lot harder but not having savvy pass defending safeties back there to help cover up compounds the problem...Henry getting repeatedly burned doesn't exactly make the secondary look half competent either...Throw into the mix that Aaron Glenn was cut and the secondary looks thin...A glimmer of optimism can perhaps be drawn from some mostly strong play from Jaques Reeves.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you which one of these 3 areas is the weakest let alone the 'strongest'...Can anyone else?

Outside of those 3 areas is a hope that perhaps solid tackling and pursuing LBs can hold down the fort on Defense...Unfortunately, tackling was a big problem against NY nevermind the MIA LBs...I watched Patrick Willis against the Cardinals and I wondered how come Dallas doesn't have a shutdown LB in the mix?...Sure would be nice.

I don't know, am I missing something here?...I'm trying to find some grain of confidence in some area of the defense but I can't find it...It has to get better right?...But who will be responsible for that improvement apart from getting healthy guys back like Newman and Ellis?

I still temper my opinion after one week. The defense didn't look good, but I also think that the Giants strength is their offense.

True...One game is just one game.

I just was wondering where we might expect to see some improvement or are we looking at a roller coaster D this season I fear

I think we'll look much better against the Dolphins. Their defense is good, but I think our offense is better. And their offense is woeful. It won't be hard to roll coverage to Chris Chambers.

I am concerned about the Bears because of their defense. They are turnover proficient and Romo could have a bad game that day. Their offense is inept, but still an NFL offense and it's never good to give them field position off of turnovers. That could make our defense look really awful.

And then the Patriots will really tell us how far we are and what our concerns are (assuming they don't have to forfeit the game in advance:D)
