What personnel/scheme upgrades could fix this defense?

-I am not interested in trading/releasing any of our defensive playmakers, where we have so few: Parsons, Overshown, Diggs, Bland.
-It is easier to find players that fit a 3-4 scheme then it is for the 4-3 Defense. However, the best defenses are multiple, able to play either scheme depending on the matchup.
-The modern game is more towards the pass. You better be able to hold up in coverage, teams will exploit any weakness.
-DC's have countered the pass attacks with shell coverages, forcing teams to drive the entire field in hopes of forcing FG's.

Personnel Needs:

(Bigger Personnel)

-Another Big DT/NT. This player could play either at NT or 3-4 DE.
-A bigger 3T DT then the 280 LB Osa who cannot hold up. More like a 300 LB type.
-A three down Mike Linebacker with size/length. Not those 225 LB types we like, but rather that 240 LB thumper.
-Playmaker at the safety position

Let's take a look at the Ravens Defense for example:

3T-Madubuike 305 LBS
NT-Pierce 355 LBS
LE-Jones 338

(Basically playing two NT's in their base defense, but a big 3T.)

Oweh Weakside, Van Noy Strongside-OLB Both are listed at 255 LBS
Smith-MIKE he is undersized at 230, Simpson Will 235
Safety-Kyle Hamilton that playmaking Safety

You start with landing an impact DT and a legitimate Mike Linebacker and try to fill in the rest.

I agree and like your ideas except I see no mention of an Edge. I think DLaw is gone next season. That position is paper thin and one thing as you look at for e example Goff & Det , Dallas got zero pressure on him .

Need DT Edge and yes a thumper at MLB Overshown & Liafau can flank for years to come .

I’m amazed Zimmer & MM seemed to have forgotten Thomas and Bell are safeties while Wilson & Hooker struggle weekly . Get some new personnel in there now .

The defense needs to be blown up. Nothing has discouraged me more the past 2+ decades than our defense. We can’t seem to build a great defense. There’s never any consistency. If we play a good defensive game, we stink the next week.

Eric Kendrick’s case in point 6’0” 227. See a lot of running backs slice through the front 7 then Wilson & Hooker have to avoid getting run over .

Van Noy will come with Belichick next year...Very smart player.

JJ: I havent done it in close to 30 years.

the fans: but this will be the year, or next year

Impact DT? Probably won't happen in my lifetime.
Jay Ratliff, LaRoi Glover, and almost David Irving. That's all I can remember in the last 25 years or so. I'll have to see how they were spaced out. Maybe we are due for another. One every 10 years ain't too shabby.

Landing an impact DT would be almost like lottery odds for this team.

I don't think so......they are out there. The question is how badly Jerry wants one
Don’t see anyone trading an impact DT and the price would be steep if anyone did. We’re going to have to find one in the draft and it’s probably going to take a relatively high first round pick.

Free agency????
It's unlikely, but my point was that Jerry could find a decent impact DT out there if he chooses to via trade, draft, or free agency. Again, it's how badly you want one.

BTW......what are you calling impact? Seems to me after you get past the top 5 or so.......there is not much difference in the next 10-15.

This team is also seriously lacking playmakers on the other side of the ball. Team Speed is very very bad.
This^^^

It’s amazing to me how it isn’t covered at all. Lamb is a great receiver but he isn’t a burner. They have no speed on offense. It’s a huge problem.

A miracle.

You cannot won with me-first players like Parsons and soft players like Diggs

Both have to go if we want a tough disciplined defense

This wont happen so defense ain’t getting better

I think Kneeland fits as that storgside olb

News flash, you are going to have a high draft pick this yr, probably in that 10-15 range
