The panthers defense played very well
To me it wasn't as much about which defense was better as it was which QB handled the adversity the best

Fair enough, but I still think Denver's defense was vastly superior yesterday. While Carolina put a fair share of pressure on Manning, it was nothing compared to the heat Cam Newton was under.

A lot of that pressure on Cam came because of bad oline play. The Denver defense was playing well, but the Panther's oline was just horrible.

Bad play? How many games did Carolina win again? Maybe Denver played their collective posterior anatomical body parts off.

Yup, we got rid of Ware. Remember?

Ware resurrected himself in Denver. He was on a team where he wasn't the one responsible for the game saver tackle/sack. That said he sure looked like he did when in his prime vs the out of position/slow mover of his last few Dallas years.

Things were started two seasons ago...Lawrence, Gregory, and Jones.

I hope we see the same edge rushing combo within the near future from those guys, and the beginning of a secondary that can ball hawk and tackle....

that said, Denver doesn't get the production of Miller / Ware without the inside pressure their guys create.

Doesn't matter what you think about Cam but they went 17-2 and went to a superbowl and lost to number 1 defense

May be the only one to think this but the law of averages has to catch up with Carolina... They came close to being undefeated, and I for one don't see them being much more than 11-5 or 12-4 next year. Still great but not a lock to make it back to big one.

LOL. You're posting drunk, right?

Umm he was 1-7 and everyone had super bowl aspirations for 2010. Everyone agreed with the decision to get rid of wade. I'm sure you did to if you dig up your old posts.

Watching these past few superbowls and still nobody sees that you win championships with an elite defense.
I'm all in on getting this defense corrected and a top 5 elite unit.
A 39 year old QB had 140 yards 0 TDs and an interception and won because of that defense he has.
Let's reach for a rookie QB though

Defense is important. So is QB. There's only been 3 times in the last 24 years a team with a subpar QB won the SB: Ravens (Dilfer), Bucs (Johnson), Broncos (39 yr old Manning). Those teams all had elite #1 defenses, not just top 5 defenses.

The odds are much better if you have a high end QB combined with a very good defense. Trying to pull off an elite defense with an avg/subpar QB is a rarity.

And as for this draft, which elite defensive player are we going to be able to select? Neither Bosa, Jack, Ramsey or any other defensive player in this draft is considered an elite franchise caliber cornerstone player. Bosa isn't Watts. Jack is a 4-3 LB, not a pass rusher like Von Miller. No one knows if Ramsey is a CB or safety at the next level. I'm all for building a great defense. But we also need a QB and I don't see any of the defensive players being head and shoulders better than the QB's. If it's close I take the QB.

That said, I don't think Jerry will pull the trigger on a QB. He'll buy into Romo having a few more years and want a player who can start immediately. So I fully expect we'll end up with Bosa, Jack or maybe Ramsey.

I think it's also interesting that the Broncos very much relied on FAs and players not drafted by the Broncos to play key roles:
  • Manning (QB)
  • Ware (OLB)
  • Ward (Safety)
  • Talib (CB)
  • Sanders (WR)
  • Daniels (TE)
  • Evan Mathis (G)
  • Vasquez (G)

Yes, they got their SB, but the team will probably implode this year or next due to cap problems. In this case it was probably worth it.

Yeah the broncos are a good case study on mortgaging the future...and why its worth the gamble sometimes.

Isn't it pretty much agreed that the Broncos already have their future quarterback? Ossweiler is a former 2nd round pick that studied behind Manning for three seasons. He started 7 games and they won 5.

I really don't see them declining as much as other think.
