They played base D all night. Nothing to really get excited about but they were good against the run.

I would hope that we wouldn't need a lot of intricate blitzes to generate a pass rush, because intricate blitzing tends to giftwrap easy TD's against good offenses. I was hoping just asking the DL to play 1 gap would generate some pressure, but on that play where Manning had about 10 seconds to throw the ball that didn't appear to be the case.

Outside of Ware, I didn't see anyone on our first team base defense beating their man on pass rush. No matter how much you want to spice it up, trench play still revolves around beating the guy in front of you.

I just rewatched the game, and one thing stood out quite a bit concerning the pass rush (excuding the first drive which I don't have recorded)...the Colts were getting rid of the ball VERY quickly. They were using a lot of shotgun and 3 step drops all night. We didn't have many opportunities to get there. The 10 seconds Manning had on that first quarter play was the exception for the most part (and is the first play i have recorded). I see no reason for concern just yet. Base D, no blitzing, and quick releases = little pressure.

I agree. We need someone collapsing the middle like the J Williams did in SD. That will make a huge difference in terms of flushing the QB to the rushing LBs outside.

I thought we looked good for the first pre-season game. Wade's not going to show his "stuff" until we the Giants get to town.......we WILL dominate! If the Ware wolf continues to come off the ball like he did last night......LOOK OUT!

I'm glad someone actually went back and watched the recordings as I did, cause this is exactly what I saw as well. And I'm a homer, but I will call it like I see it.

And in reality, Ware hit Manning a couple of times, and a couple of those times once Manning barely got it off to a WR, the second time he just flung it into the end zone uncatchable.

No worries yet.:D

I agree about the poor tackling by several players, but I chalk that up to not much work in full pads throughout training camp. Lots of time to get some hitting in between now and the season opener.

There was no stunting, or looping. It was basically just alot of blitzes from the ILB's and the OLB's. I didn't seee anything very creative in terms of what we should be seeing in the regular season when we tip our hands. I knew we were going to go vanilla, but a part of me wanted the front six besides Ware get pressure on the qb just by effort. Color me too optomisitc.

We blitzed the inside guys 3 or 4 times, Carpenter mostly, but Akin did as well...one of these resulted in the Davis pick six, because the OL came inside to block Carpenter and left Obomese unblocked.

We stunted a few times with Bowen and Ratliff, with the OLB too.

We got pressure all night from Ware, Spencer, Glymph, Carpenter, Ratliff, Bowen and Obomese.

I think when you are talking about the pass rush,, you also have to consider who we were playing. Manning is one of if not the least sacked QBs in the league.

The only really bad play i saw last night was the long pass to Harrison, Manning did have like 3 days to make that throw. Overall.. i was very pleased in what I watched last night.
