Defensive Free Agents Hope to Return; But Likely to Test Market Come March

IRVING, Texas – When it comes to changes, it seems rather clear there won’t be much turnover on the coaching staff in 2016, including none with the head coach and three coordinators.

But regarding the players, it could be a different story. And considering the Cowboys went 4-12, their worst season since 1989, there should be some personnel changes.

The Cowboys have 20 free agents this offseason, including 18 unrestricted. Of those 18, at least five are considered starters – all on defense – with a few more key role players also with an expiring contract. All unrestricted free agents can re-sign with their teams before the NFL’s new league year begins March 12.

Head coach Jason Garrett, and owner/GM Jerry Jones have been rather vague when discussing the futures of any expected free agents. But the players themselves were not as mum after the season finale against Washington. Most of which expressed an interest to return.

“I would love to come back. I love the Cowboys. I love everything about the organization,” said defensive end Jeremy Mincey.

At least it's not like last year with Dez and Murray being FA's.

Most of these are churn type players. But I can see a good 5 or 6 staying, then have competition in TC. But Hardy and RoMac top the list, then maybe Mo. Mincey depends if Hardy is signed. But we will keep Mincey if Hardy isn't here.

Leary and Heath will get tendered offers as the 2 RFA's

I think Hanna is higher on the list, with Escobar being injured. And very possibly starting on PUP.
Jack Crawford a decent role / depth guy, but I think he can be replaced. May depend on Hayden too, who i think they sign...arrgghhh...

Time to really replace Dunbar, I liked how they used him, but this was his 2nd knee injury / /IR deal. Time to move on. Draft a RB, bring back Turbin too.

Im only interested in McClain and J Crawford for the right price. Everyone else can go(defensively) .

On offense Dunbar and Hannah . Leary is restricted so he'll be re-signed. Everyone else can go.

Of course mincey wants to come back. Who else is going to pay him to put up zero sacks?

He played injured all year. I don't think it would hurt to bring him back to camp for the minimum.

I don't want to see Hayden anywhere near this team.

This offseason should start with Hardy and Claiborne being brought back. Your best DE and corner this year.

Those are the two that shouldn't . Ones a headcase and the other is average injury prone. I'd rather spend that 5-6 million a year on a new CB .

We need some fresh blood, imo some of these guys are getting complacent.

Let me see if I understand this. People want Mo and Carr gone.

Then what? Sure it's easy to say, "just get one in FA". Sure...who is out there? And, don't you think other CB hungry teams will want to get one there too? Our only CB will be Oscan. No way do we want to use a premium draft pick on CB with all our needs.

They are both losers. Period.

I don't reward that.

I'd keep Carr he's under contract . I would try and restructure him. But like last season he has leverage. I think you sign a FA and draft a guy .

Scandrick
Carr
FA
Rookie
Mitchell

And you could always play jones at CB if needed. I thought jones looked better at CB than safety. He actually made some plays at CB and those last 2 games at safety he didn't do anything.
