That's fine. If the goal is to find a career backup, look later in the draft. That's what that same study concluded. If you want to find Romo's replacement, finding him in the middle rounds is like winning a lottery. It can happen, but I wouldn't count on it.

Jerry already won the lottery once finding Tony Romo. I guess he thinks he can do it again.

He'll have a better shot at finding another Romo than he would thinking Goff or Lynch are franchise quarterbacks.

They neglected it because they had other pressing needs. In Maranelli's scheme.......you had far bigger concerns. Like your secondary, your pass rushers, your linebackers. That one tech is probably the least of their worries but they have to do something tat some point.

i guess you didnt the jist of the article. when you have no push from the middle, it makes it that much harder for the defensive ends to get to the QB. the QB can step up in the pocket and deliver. the pass rush it helps out the secondary as much if not more than the secondary helps out a defensive line. the 1tech is there to create push, not necessarily penetrate in maranelli's scheme and also to be stout against the run. our 1techs have done neither. why do we get gashed in the run game? poor 1 techs. why do QBS constantly have space to move up in the pocket and avoid the rush.. no push from the middle. your argument sounds like what Jerry had been using for many years with our offensive line. just spend money on the RB, WR and TE and ignore the center and guards.. i truly believe you build a team from the inside out not outside in.

I think the Boys need to grab some quality defensive talent as well. Which three players (2 DEs and 1 DT) would you bring in if you were Jerry?

Chum boy Gregory fowled up this whole off season plan. Frankly, drafting Bosa #1 still makes sense. What I don't like is the complete absence of any talk regarding the defensive back situation. So Jones (not Adam) moves to safety, what then? Jalen Ramsey makes a lot of sense at #1, but again, Gregory messed that up. Aside from the need for a WR and RB, the offense isn't in bad shape. If there is a Jason Witten type TE in the draft, that would be nice, as the Cowboys haven't drafted a replacement for Witten in several attempts.

ive felt that we have neglected our interior D for many years. i shook my head every year nick hayden made the team and started. i hope they fix it this year. time to stop ignoring the 1 tech.

I am not sure I would characterize it as neglect. In my opinion, they had a plan, it just did not fully work as they had hoped/intended. I mean, they did sign Hardy this last year and I would bet few people would have expected him to underperform so badly. We spent three of the top four picks in last years draft on defense. Also, in the years prior to that, we were rumored to be targeting defense guys that were taken a pick or two before us. Point being is that they have been trying to upgrade the defense, but for a variety of reasons it hasn't fully worked out.

I fully agree that they need to continue building up the defense and the problem with Hayden is that it seems apparent that Marinelli does not value that position enough to invest heavily in it.

Good thread. However some fans feel that signing Weddle and drafting Ramsey will solve the defensive issues.

I'm going on record that if Jerry and Jason avoid addressing the dline with talent the defense will be terrible next season.

Weddle solves nothing. We need some Dline help.

When you have as many holes as this team has had...... One tech becomes less of a priority. They had a **** at Floyd and Maranelli either didn't want him or didn't value the position. He trots Hayden out there. I believe you build your team through the lines on both sides of the football......but you need other parts of the line as well. You need pass rushers and depth as well.
