Going to discuss our biggest flaw on defense and (in my mind), an easy fix of said flaw.

We cannot generate a pass rush. The front 4 on the defensive line are a collection of nearly embarrassing "talent".

Our secondary has performed above expectations these first two games. LBers are another story, but the secondary has been really solid.

So here is proposed fix: BLITZ!

I don't understand why Rod never implements blitz packages in the game plan. It's like he is one of those stubborn, old school coaches who wholeheartedly believes in his schemes, and is next to never willing to deviate from that.

But again, the secondary has played well despite having to cover receivers entirely too long. I think that if Rod would blitz a LB or safety even once a series, it could be a game changer in a positive way.

Lee blitzed quite a bit today, problem is that Marinelli's blitzes always seem to be to run straight into a blocker....very ineffective blitzes.

My suggestion is to fire Marinelli on the flight home and let Eberflus take over to see what he can do. We know what Ron can and can't do.

Our defense is punching in above their weight given the talent we have on our team. It's amazing we are holding teams to around 20 points a game when we lost Hardy, R. Mac, Gregory, Demarcus Lawrence, and I believe Tapper is out too. Thank God we found our qb, so we can now start to invest in our defense. I believe if Marinelli is given talent he will be able to field an elite defense here. As unfun as our defense is to watch, San Diego just laid nearly 40 on the Jaguars.

Or maybe they are a little better in the ring and punching then most think. Yes still give up big plays, need to make more opportune stops....but maybe they are jsut a bit better too.

In an obvious passing situation, we blitzed Byron Jones and left Barry Church in coverage.

That was a head scratcher...

They always see them coming and audible or switch protection

they do not blitz because they do not want to give up the big play. The whole damn scheme is built around making teams drive 80 yards to score without making a mistake.

Get a better pass rush.

That simple.

Adding DLaw will help two positions. He will be our best passrusher and Jack Crawford will go from being a below average LDE to being an above average backup at 3T.

Irving played 15 snaps in the first game and at least half the snaps today, I have to think he is getting healthy. If he does, I think that will help.

Also I think adding Davis and Tapper for 15 snaps a game will help with the wave attack. Marinelli-style rush.

And I'm not counting on ever seeing Randy Gregory again, but he could add a lot if he somehow finds his way back to the active roster.

Another two guys I'm not counting on seeing, Rolando McClain and Jaylon Smith, could also add to the pass rush at the end of the year.

The defense will be just fine once we get :

• A Haley type DE on one side and tank can be Tony Tolbert
• A Ken Norton Jr. Type middle linebacker to team up w durant and Lee
• A Darren Woodson caliber safety
• A Deion Sanders caliber corner

With those 4 additions, we would be Awesome. No....we would be super awesome.
