Defensive philosophy question

The comment that was made by Son was that their system does not fit a NT, that 1Tech type player that most want. If the system changes or is modified, that could change. If they are not going after a true 1Tech, they better get the best MLB they can because when Lee is out, and chances are he will miss games, the run D goes to hell.

I think the scheme does not allow it. They are taught to watch players make the catch then tackle. We only get ints when qbs make a bad throw.

Yes, the CB's play off 5 yards or more, read and react. It is the scheme no doubt. Hope Richard makes some difference. Both Chido and Byron Jones should be able to play man coverage.

Very similar system
The only thing that I could see changing is one may value a 1 tech as a pure run stopper more
Rod doesn’t value a pure run stuffer Chris may but not sure

Although I don't give much credit to Marinelli for the Tampa 2 or the SB winning Tampa Bay D (that was Dungy), marri did have a decent 1 tech in Tampa.

Booger
He was a good player and really wasn’t a big pass rusher that I remember
But I guess his theory is have you one to stuff run and rush
The concept is great, the number of true one techs who can do both is pretty small though

With Marenelli supposedly retiring after this season. And Kris Richard on board now. And many including myself think he can be the next DC.

Will they gear the draft toward a defensive style he likes, though they are supposed to be similar already, From comments made a few years back, that Marenelli wanted to be like a Seattle style D.

So does Richard have an influence on the draft geared to more his style, or do they give it one more go with Rod's way. Can Richard influence them to get a true 1 Tech high in the draft.

If Rod truly is retiring (which would make me happy) you would think that Richards would have substantial influence if the plan is to make him D.C. Next year.

Same philosophy...atleast very similar.

To me Marinelli seems accommodating and not my way or the highway type guy.
As a side note I did notice that Dane Brugler had Vea in the middle of the second round. Hum

The theory is all Tampa 2. It starts up front with a 4-3 alignment, smaller linemen who are quick, cover their gaps and, can rush the QB and force the RB to the outside. In the Tampa 2 the WIL LB'er is the key. In Tampa WIL was played by Derrick Brooks, here it's Lee. The WIL LB'er is the key to the entire scheme up front. That's why our D suffers so much when Lee is out. One of two things has to happen going forward: (1) we find solid depth and an eventual replacement at WIL when Lee inevitably gets injured/slows down OR (2) we change our total defensive scheme. Nothing wrong with the Tampa 2 philosophy, but it's a better scheme when playing with the lead because it's designed to limit big down field plays. When it doesn't work though it's ugly. See the Chargers game last year

I see one media source making a claim and no quotes of actual Cowboy sources. Also, it's in the context of keeping Eberflus. That ship has sailed, so why would Marinelli step aside for the new guy?

He's 70, in the last year of his contract. That's what most of the retirement thought is based on. No one has ever come out and said it's Marri's last year. It's speculation and hope by some

Ok. Disregard them if you want. See what you want to see.

Richard is the passing game coordinator for now so dreams of a big fattie will likely have to wait.

Let's just tap the breaks on Richard for a moment. First of all just like in NE, Carroll is the architect of that defense. Secondly, why would they just let him go for no reason other than they wanted a lot of coaching changes like we did this offseason?

regardless of who the DC next year, Vea Payne or hurst type DT is the focus..well should e the focus..they should go after Vea like hes the next great big fatty in the NFL i think his upside could be a Vince Wolfolk kind a of player..it will transform our line but if we cant get him Payne or Hurst can be a Donald type..if im sitting there at 19 and looking up im going after Vea first but Fitzpatrick or James as the next guys and id be on board for going up 5 spots or so to get one..if we settle on a stud S or LB at 19 like evans maybe Hurst falls to us at 50 due to heart issues?

DT in the 1st if one of those 3 are there. LB next. Unless they have a chance without giving up too much, then I would be ok with one of those 2 DB's.

But e must get 1 of each in the 1st 4 rounds.

Harrison at S may be a goo pick in the 2nd round. In the 3rd or 4th, depending where he is now in the rankings, Poona Ford may be a good pick for DT if they ignore that in the 1st few rounds.

I want Vea in the 1st round though.

my imagination runs wild just thinking of the matchup nightmares with a Vea next to Irving with Tank on the outside and the rotation of Ealy/Taco/Gregory and if Crawford stays hes depth.that line would be something close to the old Giants lines that help them beat NE Twice@! one could only hope..
