Nick Perry, OLB Packers
Dont'a Hightower, LB Patriots
Mo Claiborne, CB Cowboys

Claiborne's wrist injury will slow him down; he won't be able to work out for a while since he's currently wearing a hard cast. Read somewhere he'll change to a soft cast sometime before TC. Hopefully Woickj (sp?) can work around that to help Claiborne get in some kind of football condition before season opener.

Claiborne is the front-runner I would think, but if Keuchly records a billion tackles this year, he could very well get the nod.

17 of the last 18 DROY winners have been linebackers or defensive linemen. A DB hasn't won the award since 1998 (Charles Woodson). Kuechly has to be the favorite right now.

Defensive backs almost never win the Defensive Rookie if the Year. Even getting 8-9 interceptions usually wont' do it. It's basically goes to pass rushers most of the time.

Last CB to win DROY was Charles Woodson in 1998.

I think Claiborne, Irvin, or Hightower. I don't think Perry has any shot at it.

True, but there hasn't been many - if any - prospects of Claiborne's calibre at corner since then. When's the last time a rookie corner even had 8 or 9 picks?

DBs rarely win postseason awards because such things are based almost entirely on statistical production, and the only stat that people pay attention to for corners are INTs (and to a lesser degree passes defensed).

Fletcher Cox is my pick, he's got a ton of D-Line talent around him and he won't see many double teams.

If he's as good as we think he is at some point teams will just stop throwing to him.

Jarius Byrd the safety for Buffalo had 9 picks in 2009, his rookie year. Granted he was a safety, however, 9 interceptions is A LOT.

He said the Friday after he was drafted that the hard cast comes off in two weeks and the soft cast goes on.

He will miss OTA's, but they said Claiborne will be full go by the start of training camp.

I think a CB would have a better shot than a safety though. Especially if he earns the title of shutdown CB.

I still think a DE or LB easily has the best shot at DRoY.

I'm not a big fan of Perry, however, I think he'll get a lot of opportunity to rush the passer and gather sacks because of Clay Matthews on the opposite side drawing double teams and the fact that the Packers offense is typically blowing people out and opposing teams end up going to pass-only mode by the end of the 1st half of games.

Yea but he was on a bad defense and a worse team...

Mo will have to rattle off 6+ INTs to be in the consideration. There's usually always a linebacker who can come in and rack up sacks or tackles as a rookie, and that's all people care about.

Mercilus. Going into a good situation, specialist in a sexy stat, and playing on a team that figures to contend.

He had a look on his face after he got drafted like he was pissed...I think he's gonna go beast.

I only watched Perry in 1 game. USC vs. the vaunted Stanford O-line and Perry was a force. He abused Martin on more than 1 occasion.
