IMO ESPN loves this because the story they broke is being discussed on other networks. Just means more air time for them and the story.

And BINGO was his NAME-O! :)

I liked what Mariucci said. He said that these meetings with WR's RB's wanting the ball happen a lot but are kept in house. Someone on the Cowboys needs to stop letting these stories get out to the media all of the time. It really shouldn't be that hard.

Dunno who is right or wrong, but I'll tell you this. ESPN and Werder hedged a lot on the timing of that article with a bunch of unnamed sources, which, had we lost, would have been a good bet. Now that the Cowboys won, that bet is going to bite them in the ***. Werder has two options: convince a source to give more material and allow to be quoted or stay away from the Cowboys. I wouldn't be surprised if he is removed from the Cowboys beat. But I wouldn't be surprised if he stays, either.

I'm willing to bet that he stays, ESPN will stay the course and wait for another opportunity to jump on a TO story. It will probably just take another loss.

LOL!

That's the fan in you talking.

Ed Werder is not going to get fired. In fact, his bosses love the fact that T.O. mentions his name every other sentence.

Folks in the media (who aren't football players) hate the fact that Werder broke that story and is getting continuous coverage via T.O.

Somehow T.O believes he's shaming Werder. He's doing the exact opposite by paying him so much attention.

That's not necessarily true.

If the Cowboys start to shut out ESPN because of Werder they will act. Just reference what happened when media were at odds with the 90's Cowboys. Some like Dale Hansen made it out ok, but many were flat out fired and sent packing to much smaller tv markets.

ESPN loves the Cowboys at the end of the day because we are the biggest ratings draw there is, if they feel we won't provide them info they'll act accordingly to insure we do.

I don't want that.
Me neither, the stuff he reported really isn't his fault if he got false information. He is the face of the story because he reported it, but as a journalist or reporter, he will take the heat.

Let's call a spade a spade here. Mr. Blue Suit has continually had these faulty sources with Dallas over the years. After awhile you have to assume that he just has horrible sources and he's refusing to get rid of them and find quality sources instead OR he's making the stuff up (which makes sense given how inaccurate he's been). And the fact that he really stretched the truth to the point where it was practically a lie saying that Bradie James backed up his story further hurts Mr. Blue Suit's credibility because IF he did have sources, what's to say that he didn't completely stretch that information as well?

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I've found Mr. Blue Suit in lies regarding this team a long time ago and if they can get some decent evidence that Mr. Blue Suit did this, then he should be canned. And part of a reporter's job is to find CREDIBLE sources and be able to decipher which source is good and which one is junk. It's getting to the point that Mr. Blue Suit cannot decipher as such and may need to find a new line of work that better suits him.

Reporting isn't just telling everyone what "sources" said. It's corroberating information from a number of sources to get the most honest story in print.

It's clear that Werder propelled only the sources that made the story he wanted to tell instead of checking and rechecking with everyone in the organization, namely, T.O., Witten and Romo, to form an honest, complete story.

Irresponsible journalism without a doubt.

The prudent and professional reporter doesn't take ONE source (real or imagined) and run with it. He will verify through at least a second source. If he reported BS because of one wrong source, it's HIS FAULT for reporting it! He is just anxious like many in the media are in today's "be the first to report something" market.

I'm not trying to say that he is completely blameless...but he is taking the hit for ESPNs overall direction.

I don't want to see Ed fired, cause I'm not that kind of person, but I do have to wonder if the heat continues to rise on him, in this situation, if ESPN won't make him a scapegoat and fire him at least as their person who covers Dallas.

ESPN loves the Cowboys at the end of the day because we are the biggest ratings draw there is, if they feel we won't provide them info they'll act accordingly to insure we do.

First, local media is different than national media. ESPN is national, and the Cowboys have as much to gain from ESPN and its coverage as ESPN has from the Cowboys.

Second, how are the Cowboys going to shut out ESPN? ESPN is a credential member of the press. It would have the same access to players after games, during press conferences as any other established media outlet.
The Cowboys can't tell ESPN who it can send to bonafide press situations. And I doubt ESPN would allow the Cowboys to tell it who can be their beat reporter.
Oh, they might try, but I doubt ESPN would because once you make that move, it sets a precedent.

Third, Werder has made him a name. When T.O. is pissed at you, that aint a bad thing, given his reputation. He can say all he wants that Werder made it up, but there was enough truth there to expose the fact there was not harmony at Valley Ranch.

Fourth, journalists go through this stuff all the time, players angry at them for a particular story. It all blows over - UNLESS - the story is at its basic level untrue. But I suspect for all their "it's made up, it's over exaggerated" those players know that they had some problems and, if they go to the Super Bowl, they'll thank Ed Werder for bringing it to light and making them a better team. Ed Werder is just doing his job. Many of the players know that, as Ed Werder knows he has to be the scapegoat. It's a game played between the media and the people they report. "The media this, the media that." I hear it all the time. But at the end of the day, the people I cover know I have a job to do even as I laugh when they bad mouth the media because I know in many cases they're looking for someone to blame and the media is as good a culprit as anyone. :)
