Deja Vu

Over-react much? I don't know which is worse, your over-reacting or your proposed solution to your over-reacting. And, just, what exactly do you propose trading to Detroit for Suh? Byrd, Boyd, and Heath ain't getting a trade done for Suh. I'm guessing Detroit would take no less than Dez Bryant. Or Detroit would want our 2015 1st and more.

I don't want Suh on this team period. He is way over-rated. And I don't want to be in cap-hell anymore. I wouldn't part with any future draft picks.

I'm not over reacting. I generally wear the rose colored glasses with this team. And I just threw Suh out there as an example and I understand that it ist is an unlikely solution to the problem. But if you think that we are fine with our depth at defensive line, I'm not sure what you have been watching?

What are your recommendations? Are you comfortable with this defensive line? And yes, I understand that Melton and Selvie didn't play last night and Lawrence is sidelined for another 9 weeks.

I'll wait see. I don't know how you can make much of an analysis with three potential starters on the DL not even playing. Mincey was the only one that played last night and Lawrence may replace him in week four.

I think they pretty much got what they got not many dl out their to get

What I see is that our defense is an unknown. There are 3 major parts to the defense and they all interact. DL, LB, and Secondary. You can't make a wise judgement on one without the other two. How does one even try to make a conclusion about the DL when 75% of the starters are out and made even more difficult with 75% of the secondary out? It is impossible. You can only key in on maybe a few one-on-one matchups like Coleman and Bishop. I did notice our interior DL did not fare well against SD double-team blocks. I'm just working my way through the game now, up to the 4th quarter right now. So far, I have determined that Coleman and Bishop didn't play as well as I was expecting based on glowing camp reports so far. But, again, how fair is it of me to have high expectations of an undrafted FA and late round pick playing with a limited supporting class in a very vanilla scheme in the opening preseason game? Not fair for them.

We just don't know about the DL yet. Am I comfortable with it? Yeah, basically. So far, I think it has the potential to be serviceable and maybe surprise. The DL is what it is and you aren't getting any help in the near future. Maybe we can trade for a DL or LB from some team desperate fro a WR or OL/C. Byrd and Boyd might have some trade value for some team willing to part with a defensive player. Or maybe C Bernadeau/OT Parnell/OT Weems to Indy or Mia for some defensive help. No blockbuster trades but maybe something which can help.

Martez Wilson had a nice stuff on 3rd and short. Hitchens had a nice stuff on 2nd and goal. I'm seeing a little flash of something here and there.

Nice post. Yes, some of the defensive line showed some flashes. Let's hope it gets better in the next couple of games.

The time to upgrade significantly has passed. All that's left on the market are players equal to what we already have. Sadly, you're right: this is very reminiscent to that OL. Garrett has jettisoned all our veterans and gone with a ragtag group of journeymen and unheralded rookies. Similar to when we cut Gurode to give the almighty Costa the position.

If Garrett had a couple years, I think Jerry would trade for help. However, the writing is in the wall and Jerry knows as well as anyone that you can really benefit (from a marketing perspective) from a high draft pick and a new coach. My theory is that he's making Garrett work harder to prove himself, so that he either gets a coach who made a bunch of nobodies into a success story or he gets a brand new face to stir up some enthusiasm amongst the fans

5-11 or better and Garrett will be here next year

Jerry is comfortable and making plenty of money, so no incentive to change

If they play for the playoffs in week 17, thats fine with me.

After watching last night's game, it seems like Deja Vu with the exception that it was more related to the offensive line. Back in 2012 when we played the Raiders, I knew we were in deep trouble with our offensive line. Romo was ambushed as soon as he dropped back to pass. Witten sustained a lacerated spleen that game.

Fast forward to last night. I know that we didn't have everyone out there for our defense. But I can't help to have the same feeling I did two years ago when I knew that we were going to be in for a long season with our offensive line. Our depth looks awful.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys can't afford to just sit back and let things play themselves out like they did two years ago. Obviously, there probably isn't a lot of quality DT's available in FA. I just feel that a more agressive approach is needed now. Is there a trade possibility available? Suh is rumbling over his contact, is there a chance that Detroit thinks about a trade? I don't know, I'm just wondering if the Cowboys feel the same sense of urgency?

You should wait until we see the real defense play with a game plan before jumping ship. Knee jerk reactions are abundant today.

Yes my hope for season is just play competitive football, we know offense is ok ,but defense even with starters is shaky and depth is pretty zilch, nada.

If we even sniff playoffs that means season is a big success.

I think the addition of Hentry Melton, Terrell McClain, Demarcus Lawrence, Anthony Spencer, and George Selive will go a long way to improving the defense line; especially if they keep up a good rotation throughout the game to keep players fresh. None of the above played last night.

Yeah, and in 2023 they have 176 mill. Point is, many players are not under contract through 2016. No Dez, Claiborne, Carter, Crawford, Bernadeau, Leary, Wilbur, Weeden. You know, like a lot of guys that will have to be replaced or paid.

And for Romo, seriously? You want to restructure and guarantee more of that contract? Pushing more dead money into the future. Getting back into the cap hell we were in. Totally ignoring how every other team in the NFL does things? Good for you.

There will be 1 year after Romo is gone that his cap hit will be similar to what it is with him on the team. They'll have young cheap QB replacing him at that time; therefore, let's say that Romo is gone in 2017. His cap hit + the new QBs cap hit will be about what Romo cap hit is now for that year. Not having Romo's 2017 base salary of 14M offsets some of the dead-money.

The future cap will be fine as long at Tyron and Dez are healthy and earning their big contracts.

Yes, as long as they dont restructure next year, guarantee him money and push out more dead money into future years. They need to eat Romos hit next year and then dump him in 2016. But doing it that way means 27mil on the books for him next year.

His base salaries are:
2014: 17M
2015: 8.5M
2016: 14M

They only need to push 12M from 2014 to 2015 and then push the same 12M to 2016.

They cap limit is expected to increase dramatically at some point before 2016.

Dude, you claim to know the cap. Look at dead money. His cap hit is not just base. Try again.

And I get it. You like playing with funny money. No other team in the NFL did it even close to the extent the cowboys did. And even they have cut back on it.

You want to keep pushing more and more dead money into the future for a QB that could break down and be forced out of FB on any given snap? You are out of touch on making sound business decisions my man.

Current cap hits:
2014: 27M
2015: 17M
2016: 21M

Push 12M forward from 2014 and Romo is cut after 2017:
2014: 15M
2016: 17M
2017: 21M
2018: 14.5M (dead money)

smh. Sure, pay 14mil for a guy not even on the team. Plus the cost of the guy replacing him.

They need to suck it up next year. Pay the bill thats due. Get rid of any additional dead weight. Draft a QB with our top 5 pick. Let Romo mentor him for 2015 and then dump Romo.

Also fire this entire coaching staff. Hire a real GM. Hope the owner has a mild stroke that leaves him incapable of speaking or making any business decisions.

NONE of which are likely to happen.
