I prefer Delpit...I think he's the best S in the group with a very bright future.
love his size.
love his athletic ability.
If Kinlaw is off the board...Delpit is my preference.
U obviously didnt watch him vs Clemson...he was hot garbage...missed 3 open tackles..WHIFS .dropped a easy int and was outplayed by the other LSU S ...do u really want a SS that is injured and cant tackle?....the job of a S is to be last line of Defense THEY MUST TACKLE

With the History of McCarthy speaking loudly and the needs in Dallas theres no doubt in my head, one of these guys will be the pick at 17.

Ill take it a step further and say if both are still there at 17 the pick is Delpit.

They used the word ballhawk at S. McKinney is better suited to playing closer to the box. As he's not a natural fit for a single high. He looks like a taller version of Woods. I wouldnt say he's a better box safety then woods is now because Woods puts it down, his faults come in coverage. As does McKinneys.

Delpit was bad at tackling in 2018, he improved this past yr. He could improve more but the point is he improved from 18 to 19. Saying this, he is an ideal fit for this team and what the coaches have talked about putting emphasis in the S being a ballhawk, which Delpit is. So IMO if he's there at 17, there no doubt in my mind that he's the pick.

Either one would improve this defense, but if McKInney is the pick i think they bring in a guy like Clinton Dix to play FS and playing McKinney at SS.
Huh? HaHa. Is a SS ..he lacks range to play FS .Anthony Harris is a FA Viks FS.....

I think Thornhill is considerably ahead of both Delpit and McKinney - would be in the first-round conversation this year and should have been last year.
Rapp is the complete opposite of Delpit so hard to compare, but I'd take him last of the 3.
Adderley's a tough call. I don't think I'd take him before either Delpit or McKinney, b/c he was so raw, but he has more upside than McKinney.

Side note - I love this exercise.
If we just drafted or signed Honey Badger this is a mute point

I have missed feelings on both especially if they pass on Kinlaw to take one of them. If Kinlaw is there and his knee's check out he should be this selection no doubt than
they would need to come back in the second round and address the secondary.
All depends on FAgency ...if we sign a DJ Reader, Phillips, D Shelton, Pierce...then DT isnt as much a need over say DE losing Quinn & Gregory history .or CB losing Jones

How is tackling fixable? They dont practice much in pads anymore ...if your bad in college u will probably suck in the NFL ..tackling is about Want to & heart ..Delpit trys to shoulder tackle 0 wrap up skills or arm tackler ...Delpit isnt a Dog
Name 5 safeties currently playing in the NFL that are dogs when it comes to tackling. Delpit is a better tackler than people give him credit for and that's his biggest weakness. He's an absolute freak athlete, he's 6'3 205lb. ball hawk. He's everything the Cowboys have been missing for 2 decades.

What world are you living in?

I watched the game cut up of his game against Bama. He missed at least five tackles by my conservative count.

That was the worst game of his college career, you can't teach 6'3, you can't teach his instincts (the guy is always around the ball, you can't teach his athleticism, but you can teach him to tackle better. He broke his clavicle in 2018 and a lot of people think that psychologically affected the way he tackles, but if the Cowboys feel like they can fix that 1 issue he has - he's a steal at 17.

Also, the man won the Jim Thorpe award (given to the top defensive back in college) this year - so it's not like we're talking about some bum.

Claiborne won that award too. Stop overhyping SEC guys. The ball hawk only had one year of playmaking production

Tackling is mostly effort. That’s why.

This is clearly a quality player.. I don’t get how you guys can deny it..

You can post highlights from anybody. Ddid you see this much pushback with derwin james on this board? Nope. He was a bonafide dog. Delpit is ehhhhh

That’s a lot of footage and not just a play here and there.

Safety in general is ehhh. There is a few good ones. I don’t want to draft one in the first round but if we get Grant Delpit he will be a good player.

You mean the guy that got a 4 on his Wonderlic; Clairborne? Ok I'll stop overhyping the conference that produces the most professional NFL players and has the most national championships BY FAR. One player has nothing to do with the other, that's a dumb statement.

Derwin James is the guy that all the 'experts' compare Delpit to!!!! Did you actually LSU play football? This guy was everywhere, the highlights don't even do him justice

Ok. Im done discussing soft grant until the combine. Im not comparing delpit to a guy that weighs 15 pounds more

If he has some sort of psychological issue with tackling post injury it’s not going to magically disappear playing against the bigger, faster, and stronger competition he’ll face in the NFL.
  • 2018: Deandre Baker, Georgia.
  • 2017: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama.
  • 2016: Adoree' Jackson, USC.
  • 2015: Desmond King, Iowa.
  • 2014: Gerod Holliman, Louisville.
  • 2013: Darqueze Dennard, Michigan State.
  • 2012: Johnthan Banks, Mississippi State.
  • 2011: Morris Claiborne, LSU
Winning the Thorpe does not speak to your prospects as pro.

James was a tank at FSU. I haven't seen anyone in this draft class who is on his level, nor anyone in the 2019 draft either.

Comparing him to Delpit as a tackler especially is just night and day. He is one of the fastest closers I have ever seen at the position and is just a violent hitter. Delpit is a shoulder tackler who misses on way too many plays.

Honestly, I think y'all need to watch James again and remember what his tape looked like.
