chess moves. to take a major piece of a dominant division rival away.

it seems to have worked. with Murray in our lineup we might not have had a Romo-less season.

chip made a lot of big risky moves.

most havent worked so far. this is the only one that worked in the fact that it helped weaken a division rival but added no direct strength to his team. maybe strength in subtraction as opposed to addition?

i agree though his style is not suited for that offense. i never thought it was. i knew it was odd to begin with.

Given our situation at QB this year, I highly doubt Murray would have sniffed 1,000 yards. then, all the world would be proclaiming the failures of Dallas by resigning him for all that money.

And have better stats than that dude that left to join the iggles.

Yes, because it's a fair comparison. They took a guy who is a downhill, straight ahead, bell cow RB and made him a spot duty, sideways, stretch the field runner. And they wonder why he's not producing. Murray has a legit gripe with how they are using him.

This OL misses Murray and he misses them. Like Nate Newton said before, they were never highly regarded until Emmitt got going. They went hand in hand. Same as Murray and this OL. We all thought this OL was the best thing since sliced bread when they weren't. Murray made them look good and they made him look good as well. They ruined a good thing by letting him walk and replaced him with McFadden.

The OL misses Calahan not Murray---he has only had one productive injury free year and he is proving management right by letting him walk. I'm sorry but to compare Emmitt and that dude just pointless for me to do.

That's a stretch. Romo originally got injured on an empty backfield play out of the shotgun...a formation we used a ton last year. And he got injured because the Eagles had a guy uncovered and Romo was trying to get the receivers attention and get the play off and it didn't work.

I think Kelly thought any tailback would work in his system and he was looking for a better short yardage back. I don't see how the Murray move 'worked out' for the Eagles. They would have been better keeping McCoy.

Fair enough. I was under the impression (i guess wrongly) that had Murray been around he would have blocked for Romo. Someone didn't pick up the block.

As for Murray going to Chip... I havent any persuasive information/counter point yet that tells me otherwise, that the move was largely about taking a big piece away from a dominant division Rival.

i actually agree. Last season Murray was in a contract season. I'm not saying it would have been the same season with him/or better. Just pointing out that the Murray move is a Chip Chess move.

They didn't have McCoy. It appeared the traded him in order to free up some cap room and possibly help (somehow) in getting Mariota.

After that, they signed Ryan Matthews. Chip needs 2 legit backs to run his system since it is a high play volume system that runs a lot. Chip may be crazy, but I tend to think that relying on Matthews and Sproles is a bit loopy. Murray was the last guy on the market other than Frank Gore and I think Murray was better than Gore. And from the reports, Chip wanted Murray because Murray used to run out of the shotgun in college. And I'm sure he wanted a good short yardage back as well as that was another report on the problem they had with McCoy. I'm sure that taking a big piece away from Dallas was some of it, but likely a small part. And the fact is that if Romo and Dez are healthy, we walk away with this division, even with Randle and McFadden at tailback. It would probably prevent us from winning a Super Bowl or even making a Super Bowl, but I don't see how this was a 'win' for the Eagles. It's failed miserably

i like your thinking/comments. thanks.

Would you say/agree that Murray is such an odd fit for that offense? At that price? I can understand experimenting with such an odd fit for maybe half the price.
True I can see us stringing together more wins with a healthy Romo n Dez and no Murray than this season has had so far but I still think Murray was a critical piece of our success last season. It seems Chip may have thought he could kill two birds with one stone. Both experiment with Murray and Take him away from a division Rival so he jumped at it even if it didnt make much sense in terms of fitting his running style to Chips system. I guess we can both argue back and forth the degree of importance of addition by subtraction. But you have given me some stuff to consider. As wild as Chip is though I wouldn't put it passed him in trying to fit a round peg in a square hole while also adding by subtracting.

Don't buy that 'all teams are like this, you just only hear about the Cowboys' nonsense. No team is run like this one.

The reported meeting that Murray had with owner Jeffrey Lurie?

"That isn't what happened," Kelly said. "He sat next to Mr. Lurie on the plane on the ride home. they were both in first class. They talked about the game and what happened."

So did Murray reach out to Lurie due to his frustration?

"He was sitting next to Mr. Lurie on the plane," Kelly said. "He didn't go and request a meeting with the owner."

He sat next to the owner on the plane ride home and they talked. The same thing that happens to any team who's owner travels to away games with the team. Someone, be it the Eagles, Murray, or Kelly decided to leak that it happened for reasons we do not know. That is the only reason anyone heard about it.

But yes, please feel free to just believe it only happens in Dallas.

From what Ive been hearing its not standard for players to be sitting in first class nor with the owner, so Chip trying to pass this off as, oh they just happened to be sitting together and the game came up in conversation is pretty much BS. The media rides the plane as well so any one of them could have "leaked" this info about the classified meeting, or the no big deal its just routine chat at the water cooler talk.

My guess is Murray wanted to sit next to the owner so he could talk to him and it was worked out for that purpose. It wasnt some secret meeting request nor was it something that just happened to come up in conversation becasue they happened to be sitting together randomly.

CC said yesterday on Mike & Mike that he went to the Vikings new owner about his contract and never said a word to Denny Green. Just CC to the owner. Im sure it happens more than we know.

You're reaching here.

Michael Irvin wasn't called a diva because he was black, he was called a diva because he whined to get the ball even when he wasn't getting open.

TO wasn't called a diva because he was black, he was called that because of his "Me" attitude and his hostile nature towards QBs that didn't pay attention to him.

Randy Moss wasn't called a diva due to being black, he was a diva for being an *******.

Murray is getting that label now for the same reason Irvin got the diva label - he's wanting the ball despite mediocre production. I, personally, don't think he's a diva but it has nothing to do with skin color.
