DeMarcus Lawrence has back surgery

MOBILE, Ala.

DeMarcus Lawrence underwent offseason surgery, joining Dez Bryant, Tyrone Crawford and several other Cowboys on the rehab list. The defensive end had a procedure to repair a back issue that kept him on the team’s injury report for much of the second half of the season.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett told the team’s website that Lawrence is expected back “fairly soon.”

Lawrence’s agent, David Canter, took to social media on Saturday night to quiet any concerns about Lawrence. Canter posted on his Twitter account, @davidcanter, “Just a public service announcement @TankLawrence is 100% and will be good to go and have a huge season #muchadoaboutnothing.”

In his second season, Lawrence led the team in sacks with eight and ranked second on the team in quarterback pressures with 31.

Crawford underwent surgery on a torn rotator cuff; Bryant had foot surgery and also had an ankle cleaned up. Tony Romo is expected to have a plate surgically attached to his left collarbone.

Cowboys' DeMarcus Lawrence: Undergoes back surgery

Demarcus Lawrence underwent a procedure on his back, according to Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett,

Lawrence had been dealing with the back all season, but it didn't effect his production, as he led Dallas with eight sacks. Garrett wouldn't put a timetable on Lawrence's return, but the coach didn't sound concerned that it would hold the 23-year-old defensive end out for long.

Another DE in FA or the draft has to be a priority just in case, not necessarily in round 1.

Personally, I'd like to see Ryan Russell step up and platoon at LDE with Mincey (or draft a guy like Bosa/Buckner to be a stud on the left side) while platooning Lawrence and Gregory at RDE.

RDE--Lawrence, Gregory
LDE--Russell, Mincey/draft
DT--Crawford, Crawford/Irvin
DT--draft, McClain/Hayden

He had a pretty good overall season with the back issue. Maybe he will shine next season now that the problem has been addressed. I'm no doctor, but I'm sure certain back problems can be fixed. Hopefully he won't have a chronic issue.

Hopefully he is back and good as new, however, it's always worrisome when a 23 year old player is already having back surgeries.

Back issues is a real concern.

I just imagine Larry bird lying down on his back court side. :( We all know how that turned out.

Looks like another bad draft. When you're working on a back or the brain very little can be done.

Back injures/ surgeries are "never much ado about nothing"

Not true. Tony's pilonidal cyst is a fairly common nuisance that can harbor chronic infection, and so eventually needs to be excised; it's simple out-patient surgery.

So many unknowns. You never know what is lurking right around the corner. Sign Hardy if he is willing at a reasonable, market price. And draft BPA. If it happens to be Bosa or Spence, so be it. If it is Goff, so be it. Just stick to the board.

Wasn't he out for months due to this procedure?

 Bad daft? The guy led the team in sacks and looked unstoppable with a bad back, we've got guys on this team healthy but play like they have back problems.
