Demarcus Lawrence

Hopefully I'm wrong. Just watching his games leaves me underwhelmed.

I can see that. He does not have a special burst or massive strength like Clowney. But few do. But he was a difference maker for that BSU team when it needed a play. He was hard to block on both run and pass. Forgot to mention that he was special in forcing fumbles. We'll see how it translates to the NFL. But I was more upset when he got hurt than when Lee got hurt. I love Lee, but we needed him at WDE and a full year's worth of learning. Anyway, at least he'll have some fresh legs.

I have to respectfully disagree. I may be a little biased having lived in Boise and watched his games in person. But, he is very long, surprisingly strong, and can bend the edge around an OT. He's no Clowney, for sure. But, I would bet that the moment he is healthy, he becomes our best edge rusher (apologies to Spencer).

Yes, Lawrence also has violent hands and a "killer" instinct that would go well with Rolando to bring a nastiness to the defense.

It will take him some time to adjust but who really knows, with fresh legs he may give us the boost we need!

Honestly, you go back and watch his college games and he doesn't look all that great. I wouldn't expect a whole lot out of him. It's not like we're waiting for Clowney to come back from injury. Keep the expectations low, cause he's not going to alter the defense all that much.

True Theo but he will be an upgrade on this squad, and he has that ability to bend which is a trait not readily attributed to any of our other DE's. No highlight footage for him is my prediction this year but high level learning and understanding taking place and sinking into his psyche as next year he becomes a starter.

Did Sam actually make plays against starters? I remember a certain character by the name of Minter who showed all the promise in the world against backups, and then got destroyed against starters.

Could be the same situation.

I also think Lawrence will be surprisingly good.

If he can begin practice after week 6, and he is on schedule, then he should be able to run this week so he could be in practice next week. Let's hope we get reports that this is the case, that he is running this week.

Will his foot let him play........that's the million dollar question.

The coaches must think he is a liability in the run game.

I'm sure the beat writers will be asking about him soon.

The wins keep the wolves away.

I'm sure if we had lost, or were not 4-1, we would have ESPN/reporters asking Jerry and Garrett non stop about Sam.

By NFL rule, yes he could play week 9; however, health-wise I don't know his status.

He had the surgery on July 31st, so it's already been more than nine weeks. I would expect that barring any setbacks he should be very close to 100% healthy when he is allowed to begin practicing after week 6.

I really hope he ends up being a productive pass rusher, I just don't see it. I've been wrong before (rarely), and I hope I am. We need a pass rusher in the worst way. He seems like he's going to be another Almost Anthony. I don't like the way he rushes the passer. I think he needs to bulk up a lot. He doesn't move very fluidly and lacks strength.

why! just cause you think so?

I think his impact could be keeping players like Mincey, Selvie and Spencer fresh down the stretch. If he can get 20 snaps a game, those 3 would be better then they would have during that crucial December

i think thats about right but he also get some very valuable snaps to learn from in the process and if we get into the playoffs he gets even more. ever snap a young guy gets is valuable

He was also a very good run defender in college. Of the guys in the draft that were options to play RDE in the Cowboys scheme, I thought he was in the top 2 in run defense.
