DeMarcus Ware Is Going to Be Great This Year

I swear, Ugoh was coming up out of his stance and had turn almost clear around to get to Ware who was already even with him and almost behind him.

I thought he had to be off sides, but he wasn't.

Yeah he's a freak of nature and I mean that in a good way....

Thanks for the re-cap, especially as it relates to our scheming. Can anybody provide some key differences between the defensive approach in this game to last year? What key differences stood out, even though this was a vanilla scheme? For example, was their more movement at the defensive line?

For one, Ware rushed the passer with a much higher frequency. Toward the end of last year, the opposing offense was dictating when Ware would rush by changing their formation. Indy motioned the slot receiver and tight end tow Ware's side a few times, and Ware rushed anyway...

Did anybody besides me think he must have been off sides on that one rush where Peyton barely got rid of it before he arrived? I kept thinking, no way he's that fast. Well, if you replay it, yes he is. If I were a QB going against Dallas I'd be very scared if I see much film of his jump. The only guy I've ever seen as fast or faster was Bruce Smith in his prime.

When help arrives in the form of the rest of the defense being comfortable with what they are doing, Ware is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Yes Hos, you are correct and did you notice how good Spencer looked dropping back into coverage and also rushing the QB? He did not get any tackles, but you can just tell Spencer is a player and I read he is ahead of Ware at this point in their young careers....this is very encouraging for our pass rush this year.

Ellis hurry back and we could do something special with this defense.

I remember thinking "C'mon Ware, rookie mistake!" as he ran over that line. Thought for sure the yellow flag would fly. That guy is a demon!

Another thing to consider is the fact that even if the opposing line has opportunities to hold back Ware, I don't see them doing it for the entire game without being totally wiped out and exhausted.

I don't see any team doing that for 4 quarters.

The speed is the same as last year and the year before. That isn't what has kept him from being a true monster, so I don't understand why you think it suddenly will make him a true monster.

Dwight Freeney is quicker off the snap than Ware, but last night Ware had a few superb jumps.

Perhaps your post wasn't the best one to quote, but you went on to describe what his speed did last night, as if it were any different than what his speed did last year. And you were responding to the initial thread which indicated Ware could become even better because of his speed.

I think it's legitimate to note that what everyone noticed last night is the same thing he has shown for two years. It's like people acting surprised about John Elways arm strength in his third year.

That last statement really implies that its more than just a foot race to the QB which I think is your point. And I agree now as I agreed then.

Why would you hold me accountable for the statements and conclusions of the original post by Hostile in this thread? It would seem more appropraite to dispute his post, not mine.

And while I certainly agree that Ware has been quick & fast during his entire Cowboy tenure I don't think its absurd to comment on his play last night seeming particularly so. Its a pretty common and accepted practice when a player has a particulary outstanding trait and has a chance to display it once again.

I apologize for making a big deal of this. Its not worth anyone's time really. I guess I just felt your point "it takes more than speed to be a great pass-rusher" could have been made more appropriately without you jumping to the conclusion that I and others in this thread felt the opposite.

It struck me as a pretty direct put down that I think was unwarranted and I guess at the end of a long week I didn't feel like just letting it roll off my back.

I just felt it was strange that such a big deal was being made out of something we have seen for the last two years - I felt the speed part of Ware's game shouldn't be surprising to anyone at this point.

leon lett, imo, was the fastest off the line i have ever seen...ware sometimes hits that level but often doesn't seem to react as quickly to the snap as lett...

Lett anticipated a lot - which is why he got called for offsides a lot.
