I believe the near-future of the Dallas Cowboys rests in what happens to Ware.
If Jerry is able to make the HARD decision, you know- the one that's going to make some people gulp: I will have a lot more faith in the old man than I did.

If it's another restructure (there will be no status quo on his contract- that's a given), then it's the same ol' same ol' and there will be no urgency on this team from top to bottom.

I honestly believe that what we do with Ware will be the Figurehead move for the next few years.

That and Austin. And the acquisition of new talent including keeping the steady players on the team now.

I don't think Ware is playing at 100%. Age and injuries are catching up to him.

That's the truly stunning thing. I mean, God bless Ware, by all accounts he's the kind of guy you want your daughter to bring home, etc, etc...

But we lead the league in drafting these kinds of guys and where has it got us??

Can we go out this year and get tough as nails nasty football players?? Please??

Watch it, I suggested that and darn near got run off this board. lol

then u cut him next year if he doesn't take a pay cut. you don't hope, pray, assume that he will be back to his normal self next season.

I am afraid he is playing at 100%, but his talents have deteriorated to where 100% for him ain't what it used to be. By the way, Hatcher had all zeros on the stat sheet as well.

I'm definitely not making excuses for him. I'll stick by my post in another thread that Dez is the only game changer on this roster. Ware's decline showed last year.

What's the cap hit if he were to retire following the season? Is he still due his full 12.5 or is there some kind of out for cap relief? He's done and really needs to walk away because I've never seen such a rapid decline in one year from a perennial Pro-Bowler in my life.

Demarcus has always been the epitome of a pro, and probably a future HOFer. It's not his fault the body isn't keeping up anymore.

It's the coaches for not having someone better in that spot than he is playing now.

Geez how many excuses do people make for this guy? He calls everyone out in the media and pretty much calls them stupid for questioning how effective he i. Then turns in this performance.

So Ware says....there is no reason to give up.

Hey Demarcus, I have a better one: Never mind giving up...how about if you SHOW UP?

This guy is stealing $$$ every time he cashes an NFL paycheck these days.

Does he wear a ski mask to pick up his game checks?

Hey Ware, instead of getting b-slapped by scrubs week in and week out, you actually try to make a play......................You had no hurries, no solo tackles, no sacks.............you did jack the whole dam game................your done.

He's done. He's awfull and he should be cut.
Last game of last season he bit on every fake of a rookie QB.
This season, with the season on the line, he was useless in Chicago and useless against the Pack.
I also loved when Aikman called him out.

Even Drew Pearson called him out this week. He said that Demarcus says he's giving 100% out there, but deep down he knows he's not and those young players out there knows he's not. He needs to show these young guys how to play, lead by example. He gets a garbage sack fall into his lap, so when you look at the stats and think he played fairly well, but he's not playing well at all. He's out there dancing with guys, he shouldn't be out there dancing with them, he needs to be beating them.

A player gives 100% on the field through injury and gets verbally beaten by the fanbase. We have 10 other plays on this defense you should be calling out other than Ware who do not give their 100 percent.

Decline in productivity perhaps, but give the man a break. He has been a sure fire HoF player for us. Focus on the rest of the team who have no passion, thanks fanbase.

So let me make sure I understand you. It is ok to trash the guys we picked up from Home Depot and the old folks home (Kiffin). But we should let Brandon Carr, Scandrick and Ware slide? If these highly paid HEALTHY guys cannot make plays....then we should just fold camp. Sterling Moore was our best defensive player yesterday...and we CUT him in training camp. Laughable!!!!!!!

He has always been primarily an edge rusher or speed rusher that beats the tackle outside by getting to the edge and getting leverage there. He is not a bull rusher and does not have a great inside move like a spin or swim move that prototypical 4-3 DE's have. So as a 4-3 rusher he is limited in his options but he has been so good as an edge rusher that he has been able to succeed there.

To be fair he has also played the run fairly well - though he did not do well against the read option plays - but does ok against a RB in his area most of the time so he sheds blocks well in the run game.

But he is no longer setting the edge against tackles, they are able to carry him well past the QB without help from a RB now. So on most plays he is running himself out of the play and then trying to come back around from behind the QB. But the path is too long and the QB gets rid of the ball before he can get there.

The real question that matters is this....Why cant Ware get the leverage on the tackle to make the arc of his pass rush path shorter.

It is either

1) he has lost a step in quickness so he cant get to the point of attack quick enough and the tackle gets in good position OR
2) he is getting to the edge quick enough but lacks the power to use leverage even if he has the tactical advantage from a positioning standpoint

One would indicate an age related decline while the second would seem to suggest injury

If someone was to rewatch the game and focus on this they might be able to see, but then again im not sure if this is the kind of thing you can see from game review.

But without winning the battle from a speed rush by setting the edge, i dont think he can be an effective player.

i agree 100%. let's sit back and see what jerry does. he can take a paycut but it has to be a significant one. the way ware displayed a little of his ego this week after being criticized makes me think he won't take that cut but who knows, he's pretty established in the dallas community and the no income tax thing helps so he might take it and stay.

Ware's inability to make a play isn't whats killing us. it's his insistence on completely running himself out of the play leaving gaping lanes for RBs to run and QBs to throw. I'm thinking another Selvie-like player would be better at this point. Wow - cant believe it has come to this....

Gone are the days when Cowboys played with heart and passion. It used to said that battles were won with will: The Cowboys don't have will, they have a process.
