I think the #1 reason why Bill Parcells retired is because he doesn't know if he can fix what's wrong with this team. Its not a matter of adding a new player here or there. I keep thinking back to Michael Lewis article on Bill in the NYT, and keep thinking to the part where Parcells worried how this team folds when they're punched in the mouth.

That was always the thing that bothered me most too, and I don't have a clue as to how to fix it. This team had a bad tendency to just quit when they got their nose bloodied. I'm not sure you can coach meanness and competitiveness.

I suppose that I'm hopeful that a lot of the players on this team just had so little confidence in the schemes that they felt like they were fighting with one hand behind their back. I know that several of the players voiced their displeasure with some of the things the coaches wanted done.

That might indict the players on one level, but it might mean that they want to fight back - they just need to believe. Sounds silly, but I believe this team needs to find a little more fire.

I just thought this was an encouraging piece, from the king of "They are what we thought they were!"

They were analyzing Bill's departure - and wondering why it came now, and Green said he was kind of at a loss, but thought it had something to do with their late season collapse, and he didn't know why that happened.

Then, he said "When we played them in week 9, we thought they were hands down the best team in the league."

Just interesting from a guy who played against the Seahawks, Bears and the AFC West this season.

"You wanna crown their a@* then crown 'em" :star:

I think a lot of it has to do with leadership in the lockerroom, which I feel the Cowboys lack, and who the players rally around. As near as I can tell Greg Ellis is the leader of the defense, and he doesn't exactly portray a "can do" attitude. We don't have a Brian Dawkins on this team.

Before the Aints game we were battle tested and i saw no give up in the team. We fought 60 minutes in every game before that. I think this team has guys that can step up and be that but Mr. Negative zapped out the life they had. When i saw the Boys in Texas Stadium play the Lions. When they came out of the tunnel NOBODY looked excited. There were no fist pumps, high fives, hands in the air...nothing. The Cheerleaders were the only signs of life on that field. I think the problem is an emotional one. I think the team lacks it because of the coach/coaches.

I am glad Parcells is gone but here is the perception paradox. If Parcells stifled the coaches and the players why does he only do it in the second half of each season. It seems in the first half of each season we come out like gangbusters, although this year we see-sawed along the merry path of optimism and then we strung a handful of wins together when we got Romo in there.

He failed to mention that we were playing at our best because we had an idiot kicker who Parcells couldn't trust. So what happened? He opened the offense up and played to win. Exit Vandershank, enter Grammatica, enter conservative, enter playing not to lose again, equals december collaspe.

Please, it was there the very first game of the season. The Jags game, everything was going well in the first quarter. We're up 10-0 and have complete control of the game. Then the Jags started to fight back, punched us in the nose and the entire team folded like a cheap card table.

This attitude came way before the Saints game, way before this season, and way before Parcells. Its started sometime around where Irvin retired and when we strarted building the around timid personalities like Dexter Coakley, Dat Nguyen and Greg Ellis.

The # 1 reason is probably because Jerry was too tight to pay Bill.
