for back up WR ?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to trade veteran receiver Dennis Northcutt, the most productive receiver they have left from last year's team, Northcutt's agent confirmed.
"They have indicated that they intend to trade him and are trying to do so," agent Jerome Stanley said in an email exchange with ESPN.com.

Northcutt joined the Jaguars as a free agent in 2007 and in 29 games caught 88 passes for 1,146 yards and six touchdowns. He also did some work as a return man. He came into the league as a second round pick by Cleveland out of Arizona in 2000.

at least he better than Matt Jones

but lets see how the youngsters do in training camp

Could be interesting , I think we will get a wide out ,i fell we will need the depth this yr,that gut feeling... I think Roy's learning curve from last yr may make us think twice, but i think we should get someone else. A ligit #2 wise..I do like Austin, just have a feeling there might be a diamond in the rough that can reap dividends this yr ,gut thing again...bill Knows

I still think Roscoe Parish is a nice fit

Could work as well, I just think we'll get someone else, WR depth is a huge concern for me.If we can keep the Defenses we face this yr honest, We could be very good on offense, and that means wins...

While I believe we will pick up another WR before the season starts, I don't see us trading for one.

I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't at least do some investigating to see what he'd cost to acquire. He has special teams experience and DeCamillis should know plenty about him. As a punt returner, he hasn't done much lately. In 2007 he averaged a Craytonesque 9.1 a return. He hasn't had a touchdown return since he was a Brown.

Unless it is a late round or conditional choice, I would as soon pass or wait until he is released. I know it sounds crazy given our weirdness at the position, but I just don't see what he has to offer that we don't already have in Crayton.

We're not giving up draft picks for Dennis Northcutt.
We may add a WR from the street if the current crop can't stay on the field. Otherwise, it's pretty obvious we're comfortable going with what we've got.

Depends what they are asking for. It obviously can't be much. We don't have a 5th and a 4th is too much. A 6th is the most I go.

Northcutt>>>>>Crayton

Northcutt>>>>>Crayton

Based on what?

Statistically, Crayton is actually superior. Even if you give Northcutt the benefit of the doubt, it is a push at best. Plus, Crayton is younger.

Again, how is Northcutt five times better? Oh wait. This must be residual angst from the 2007 playoffs. Carry on.

I'm not basing it on stats. Northcutt has not had the pleasure to play with Witten and TO for most of his career. Swap careers and no one would ever hear about Patrick Crayton. Northcutt is far more talented with speed and explosiveness and can kick and punt return. Crayton possesses none of those attributes. From what I hear Crayton has great hands. That's just a rumor though.

I dont want Crayton returning anyway. The guy doesnt know how to carry the ball. Plus this is a step up year for him at WR

Can't disagree that Crayton has had it made as far as running mates. I'm not sure that I agree about Northcut being better but no doubt that Jacksonville has had nothing at the receiver spot for years. Now that they have Torry Holt (even at his age), 3 good looking rookies, plus a healthy Mike Walker entering his 3rd season, they should be much better.

I'm surprised they're dumping Northcut though....he was a least marginally reliable. Although on more than one occassion last season he ran a 5 yard route when they needed 6...got hit in the numbers and did not make the 1st down. The coach would get furious. Also, his hands are only average for a slot guy. I bet Mike Thomas or Jarrett Dillard are going to take his spot.

I bet he either gets dropped without anyone trading for him or Jax gets a 7th rounder.

That's who Dallas needs to target... He's an amazing punt return guy and a nice deep threat.

I'd take him over Northcut. Parish is the odd man out in Buffalo---that team has a ton of WRs now.

Who would he replace? Stanbeck?

We need to stay with the WR's we have and give them a chance, see what they can do. Bringing any one in now will defeat the purpose of showing our WR's the confidence they have in them.

Now if someone falls to us, for a great deal, then you can't pass on it. But don't give up something just to do it.

I'm all for competition, as it will push the players to be better. But that's when it doesn't cost you a lot to do that. Jimmy could do that, because of not having a salary cap and weren't roster limits higher then?

Now there seems to be a premium, or price to pay for such things.
