whats with the hype with this guy? Many here seems to want him as DC.

He's the DB coach at New York.... what makes you guys think he can be a successful NFL defensive coordinator?

What makes you think he can't?

Spent six years coaching the Ravens secondary (2002-07), four as secondary coach, two as defensive assistant alongside Head Coach Rex Ryan...The team led the NFL with 126 interceptions and 18 interception returns for touchdowns while he was coaching Ed Reed (34 INT, 2002-07), Chris McAlister, Samari Rolle and Deion Sanders, among others.
◊ Before coming back to the NFL, he coached the defensive backs at his alma mater, USC, for eight years (1993-2000).
◊ Coached defensive backs for the Cardinals (1988-89).
◊ Dennis Thurman led the defensive backs for the Jets in 2009, helping the defense allow the fewest points, fewest passing yards and fewest total yards in the NFL.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
◊ Selected in the 11th round in 1978 by the Cowboys.
◊ Played nine years in the NFL as a cornerback and safety, eight with the Cowboys and one with the Cardinals.
◊ Recorded 36 career interceptions (four for touchdowns) and played in Super Bowl XIII for the Cowboys in 1979.
◊ A two-time All-American safety at USC who was part of teams that won four Bowl games and the 1974 National Championship in a defensive backfield that also featured future Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott. Recorded 13 interceptions, returning two for scores.
◊ Played quarterback and defensive back at Santa Monica HS on three CIF Division I championship teams that combined to go 39-1-1.
OFF THE FIELD
◊ Graduated from USC in 1978.
◊ Two daughters, Chelsea and Jade.

He's a Rex Ryan disciple so the assumption is he would run a similar, aggressive defense. Plus, he played at and coached at USC so he must be awesome.

He was also a great Cowboy so you know he would have some extra pride in turning this defense into a nasty, high-ranked powerhouse.

In short, I like him because he lives, eats and breathes football. He's the kind of man that just lives for the game of football, which is the kind of thing this team needs more of IMO.

Now, while I have him on my wish list, I don't think that there is a very good chance of Dennis coming to Dallas anytime soon.

Nice. My only concern with him really was the fact that he was or has been strictly a DBs coach. Do you think he can come in and effectively coach a D as a whole unit? Play calling, Lineman, linebackers etc.

In a word, yes. I've met the man and attended coaching clinics where he spoke. I'd play for him.

Seriously, he's done his time and he's ready to be a DC.

I posted an article awhile back that stated that Thurman had some say in play calling during the two minute drill. You might try to do a search and find that thread and read those articles.

You're very young, so I'm curious. Do you even know who Dennis Thurman is or what he's done in the league? Again, I'm just curious...

I like his track record but he's had the luxury of coaching some talented players everywhere he's gone

Uh, with the Lions he coached WRs and TEs after Special Teams. He became a Defensive Assistant while with the Broncos, continued that under Parcells with the Giants. Then while under Parcells at New England he was the DB coach and the same with the Jets.

Ummm... And where do you think other defensive coordinators got their start? If no one hired anyone without coordinator experience then every team would just cycle through the same 32 defensive coordinators every year. Every coordinator, at one point, was hired when they did not have coordinator experience. How else do people get promoted?

Seriously? Seriously dude?
