NFL Player Quits Because, You Know, Noam Chomsky

November 11th, 2013 | by Eugene. Published in News | 27 Comments

John Moffit, an American football player for the Denver Broncos, has walked away from a multi-million dollar contract after studying the works of Noam Chomsky and the Dalai Lama.

Moffit was on contract with the Denver Broncos until 2014, where he was expected to make another $1 million dollars for the remainder of his contract. Moffit announced on his Twitter that he was saying goodbye to football for good.

The AP notes that Moffit’s worldview changed after reading the works of the Dalai Lama and Chomsky over the last few years while in school.

This is funny. I watched Moffit threaten to beat a dude up outside a bar in Madison (to be fair the guy was talking **** about Wisconsin's QB Scott Tolzein).

LOL...... I had a thought about finding out if Moffett might still be interested in playing football but Noam Chomsky, really? I guess we'll be looking for Guards in the draft.

I understood the workings of our government far better after reading Deterring Democracy, but I didn't quit my job or stop voting. Different strokes, I guess.

And 5 years from now when he's flat broke and realizes no one gives two turds what he has to say now that he's no longer an athlete competing at the highest levels, he will be thinking "what the &*^&*% was I thinking???"

I'm sure he's heartbroken about wu not wiking him.

I somehow survive him never reading my posts on CZ, he'll probably get over the whole disappointment thing.

Also, I was lying. I read more Chomsky than I'd care to remember even if I understood it all properly in the first place back as an undergrad. It was nothing to make me quit my day job.
