Sorry man, you were being sarcastic but I don't think he was claiming we were superbowl contenders going all the way. My interpretation was most people picked Pittsburgh and they aren't a bad team.

I completely understand the hate for hyperbole, because that's what triggered me to respond. Probably because, I have a shred of optimism after what I consider a good road win, and wasn't ready to see it crapped on.

I get what your saying and shouldn't have been d$%ksh. My bad, lemme just appreciate this game another minute and I'm sure after Detroit reality can set back in.

Nah man. You’re a great poster. I appreciate reading your posts.

I can sometimes come across wrong too. That’s always the drawback of just communicating through writing. We don’t get to see the body language or facial expressions.

I mean no disrespect to whirlwind either. Just having some banter.

Shoot sometimes I do engage in bad debate tactics lol. We all do and sometimes need to be checked.

As for the cowboys. I enjoyed the win too bro. I think the positive is. We have a lot of young talent. So if the damn injuries can stop. The cowboys should in theory get better as the season goes too.

Im starting to think some people on here might be right.. that its a throw away season.

Bringing in Zeke.. Zimmer for 1 season.. keeping MM.. doing nothing in the offseason.. lets see if they do anything before the trade deadline.

I thought there was zero chance of them going after BB.. now Im starting to wonder.. surely there is a reason for all this inaction.

If we make the playoffs I will be pleasantly surprised.. and its always good to be "pleasantly surprised".

So after 29% of the season.. I think they are going ok considering the piss-poor job the GM did.

It always takes at least 4-6 games into a season - maybe more - to start to understand what an NFL team is. The win in Pittsburgh showed grit and the ability to overcome mistakes. The Cowboys have now played 29% of the 2024 season and in my opinion, here are some things that describe this team so far:

OBSERVATIONS OF TEAM SO FAR
  • After 5 games, this team has shown that it can bounce back from some adversity after playing two really bad games followed by a couple of gritty wins. But it still has a long way to go IMO be as good as last year’s team.
  • This team is very reliant on several rookies who have mostly performed well. Relying on lots of rookies has some ups and downs as they continue to learn the NFL.
  • So far this team has looked worse than the 2023 team on offense and are struggling to score more than 20 points per game. A weak running game and a decent passing game make it far less explosive. That has to improve to be a serious playoff contender.
  • Mike Zimmer’s new defensive scheme has looked worse than last year too, although injuries have devastated that side of the ball as well. It has improved in the last two games
  • Overall this team through 5 games appears to still be struggling to find its identity and IMO lacks offensive firepower to be a playoff contender.
KEY QUESTIONS FOR REST OF SEASON
  • Will this team be able to find a running game? (Rico Dowdle has shown some promise)
  • Will this team be able to overcome the key injuries that have plagued it early this season?
  • Will the front office add some talent on offense? (If not, this offense does not appear to have enough to compete in the playoffs)
  • Will the rookies we are relying on develop into reliable starters?
  • Will the players continue to play hard for this coaching staff who are all on expiring contracts?
So far the Cowboys have looked like an average NFL team with as many questions as it has strengths. Lots of time to get better but without some additions on offense it will likely continue to struggle to score more than 20.

Other observations?
Consistently mediocre.

There is another theory:
If Jerry knows the NFL is going to throw a lifeline to their flagship franchise he would have wanted to have a disappointing offseason (for the fans) so that when the Cowboys finish better than expected the fans would be less likely to criticize the way he has run the team in the past, as if they were wrong and he was right. There's no doubt the NFL has benefitted in value from Jerry's work in helping more teams get collossal domes, and they may reward him with success that would dumbfound his detractors.
Jerry may know he can expect more wins like the Detroit games from the past two seasons.

Yes sir, same and I'll take this sliver of hope. I've been negative all off season and it's never been my style. They damaged me during GB. At least now I can hope a little and not have expectations. Maybe we do improve as the season goes on. It's a strange year already.
