He’ll make the team, because Jerry will see to it. They made far too big a deal drafting him, for him not to make the team. However, you’re going to be very wrong if you think he’ll be our best RB by the end of the season. Tap the Brakes! He simply doesn’t have the size. The Cowboys will likely move on from Pollard after this season, because he’ll have five years of wear and tear and they’re not going to want to give him a long-term extension. With that being said, if you think Vaughn is going to be our lead back heading into the future you’ll be sadly mistaken. Some of you continue to go way overboard with him.
Here's what you're forgetting the Cowboys rich history might say that we always have a blue chip three down running back but I believe they're doing it the way the rest of the NFL is and no one is counting on Tony Pollard or deuce Vaughn or guys like that to do it on his own they literally both can't be lead backs you can book that too put it in three inch headlines Tony Pollard is not good enough to be a three down back he tailed off big time at the end of last year because of his carry load maybe he'll be able to do a little more this year but I don't think he could do more than 15 to 16 carries and still be fresh to go into the playoffs. So going forward I believe you would want to keep deuce Vaughn for the future if he works out to be basically the new Pollard and we need to bring in another back in 2024 that's a little bigger and can do a little bit more in short yardage and between the tackles and we're gonna do running back by committee and spend less money at the running back position just like the stories that have been flooding social media the last two weeks.

So, I don't think anybody's thinking this dude is going to be our lead back but neither is Tony Pollard...

Tony Pollard is not gonna be able to do it this year on his own regardless of him saying if you call, it I'll haul it... oh except for when you get 3.8 yards per carry 51 yards per game no touchdowns and get hurt twice in the span of five games to finish the season. So, I'm doing load management also on Pollard up until the playoffs and then you want to ride the dude into the dirt that's fine because he's not going to be here next year.

I would like them to use 4 running backs, activate 3 on GD depending on the game plan is who you choose for that week's opponents weaknesses...

I’m not forgetting anything, the days of a lot of teams having a carry the load, workhorse back are gone. For the past few seasons the Cowboys have been rotating backs and they’ll continue to do so. You have fans on this board that think Vaughn is capable of caring the ball 20+ times a game which is ridiculous at his size. I’ve seen fans on this board predicting he will have 15+ carries per game, which simply isn’t going to happen. Not even Pollard and Zeke got 15+ carries a game last season. The Cowboys may very well give Pollard the brunt of the carries, knowing they’ll move on from him after this season. They’re going to squeeze as much as they can out of him, depending on how the other backs perform.

I'll tell you why he will be the best RB. Overall yard production. Between the tackles, screens and slot receiver. He will have more yards running and catching combined than anybody else on the Cowboys this season. Book it.

He'll look great in pre-season against 2nd & 3rd stringers. Some highlight reel runs no doubt.

He'll be able to break some runs against the big boys in real games too. His lack of blocking ability will be a real limitation, but that is something that can be game-planned around to some extent. Can you imagine him trying to block a blitzing Parsons! LOL

His lack of size and power will be his undoing. Good backs can make something out of nothing. They can power their way out of a 2-yard loss, and turn it into a 2-yard game. Deuce can't do that. He will get stuffed too often. Ultimately his limitations will out-weigh his benefits. He'll make the team this season, but won't last longer than 2-3 seasons in the NFL. Hope I'm wrong. It will be fun to see.

Regular season NFL is a far cry from college or even pre-season.

Several videos floating around. A few of us were talking in the offseason about Gibbs' ability in the passing game. But I didn't realize until we drafted him that Vaughn has just as much receiving ability as Gibbs. It's going to be fun watching him out there if he makes the team, and I think he will.

He messed up this drill and hit the bag.

My goodness he is so tiny out there!! I hope he can contribute... I hope he stays healthy!!

Go Cowboys!!
528 carries over the past two seasons for K State. He’s extremely tough.

I like to imagine his low center of gravity helps prevent injuries. Defensive players aren’t usually in position to tackle him by the legs.

I'm just saying I think that would be a mistake to do that in the regular season with Pollard but then really open him up in the playoffs we need some fresh legs from the running backs and why not during the season have four backs running back by committee figure out again the game plan each week depending on the opponent who they activate.

I mean don't they usually have three or four on gameday?? I mean some don't get any carries but they're on special teams... so they're there if you want to give them 4 carries put them in and just let them hit that A&B gap in couple times while little backs are resting.

Same with Rojo I mean we got guys that we can do running back committee with and try to save Pollard for the playoffs,

I mean not completely save him but don't have a games back-to-back where he's getting 18 carries I'd rather see it like 13 to 15 and then get Vaughn 6 to 10 or whoever rises to the top...

I don't care like I said this dude might be my pet cat, I just want to see fresh running backs come in and just at the end of the year when the playoffs start to gear up that's when you start preparing the guys you settled on for a smaller rotation in the playoffs.

It's sort of what they did with Tampa Bay Super Bowl year with Tom Brady they actually used Rojo as the primary back and seemed to really pull the reins back on fornette but then they flip-flopped it in the playoffs and Fournette was fresh and he ran pretty well and I think they needed to be doing that with our backs to make sure that happens for Pollard.

Heck I know this is a crazy idea somehow Ezekiel Elliott is still sitting out there around week 10,

I would want to bring him in here get him ramped up a little bit and then have him super fresh for the playoffs, just pay him non-guaranteed prorated money for the rest of the season he can come in here and maybe help the team out that he started with... I mean I think he could be a weapon if he's fresh he started out both the last two years before he got injured he looked very good averaging close to five yards per carry imagine if you flip flop the way you used him and use them four or five games at the end of the year going into the playoffs???

I can't see how this guy makes the 53, honestly. Maybe PS. What role will he have? If he could return kicks and take Turpin's role, then he may have a shot but he can't do the kick return thing, or at least he never has from what I read. I think he will be fun to watch in PS though. And I am rooting for him for sure. But realistically, I just don't see a role for him but maybe I will see it differently after PS games are played.

He looks like he not only makes the team, he looks like he will be playing.

Back in the day we used to play ball against a real small dude named “Squeaks”……tried all game to blow him up but none of us could hit him square up

Those little dudes can slip big hits like nobody’s business
I know Emmitt Smith is not as small as Deuce, but what made Emmitt truly great was the ability to avoid big hit tackles. If Deuce can do the same, then Dallas got a steal at pick 212.

He's a baller.

But come on. If you had to pick one guy that of course would look great in non-real contact camp, it would be this little guy.

Not saying he won't also look great on gameday, but this was a given.

His quick feet and burst stand out. And at his height, he can dart and duck behind those tall linemen so well he might end up five yards down the field before the defense can even see him.

Can't wait to watch him this preseason.
I agree. But he is gonna get a big welcome to the NFL when a LB or safety comes up and fills the whole.
