Devaluing the RB position

I remember we got criticized for overvaluing the RB position by drafting Zeke #4 overall and then making him the highest paid RB in the game. Now we undervalue the position by taking UDFAs and paying them peanuts. Both criticisms are true. But it’s funny to see how the script can flip.
Yep, they did blow it this offseason.

But late 1st rounder or 2nd rounder is more the sweet spot.
#4 overall for Zeke was not great. Kind of crazy even.
That's 3X the price of a late 1st. I mean Henry went that year in the 2nd

Even this year, that 4th we used on Bucky Irving or Isaac Guerendo in that same round

Good teams in the NFL can run and usually have a stud to do it. Jerry had his shot at Barkley, Henry, Jacobs and Aaron Jones but ended up fooling around. Who thinks they’ll use their 1st next year since they missed out and are unwilling to trade for anyone this offseason?
Jerry thought Zeke was just as good as any of those guys. But, Jerry is usually wrong.

Only because of they type of RB he is. Mixon or McCaffrey or Henry would be well worth that spot. At that point, it's not about this mythical "value" anymore, it's clearly about how that player makes your team better.

Well to be fair most of our fans and pretty much all of the analysts and media says RBs come a dimensional a dozen and are devalued soooooo!
Don't know as I've ever seen such a dumb thought believed by so many. This ranks right up there w/ the moon landing being fake.

If we hadn't drafted Zeke, Dak never would have happened.

Ill take better tackles and receivers all day, if your gonna draft a back it better be 3rd round and later. We only have one starting healthy receiver and Cooks is no longer a 2.

No, if you're going to take a RB in the 1st, he better be Henry or Mixon or Gibbs.

They were also interested in Tracy who went to the Giants before the Cowboys picked in the 5th.

It is a combination of
1.the RB
2.the blocking and scheming, formations used
3.the coaching
4.the playcalling
5.the # of carries a RB gets, and total carries for the team.

Dallas only ran 18 times to SF 36 lol it makes a difference.
guys like duece only get 2 carrys a game, how can you show anything with 2 carrys and crappy line and coaches etc.

The position, itself, is not devalued. Their contract value is.

Teams know how to obtain serviceable RB's without spending a fortune.

Well, most of them.

Once again, Jerry tries to imitate the cool GM's and flocks it all up.

I'd say RBs are fairly valued by the league now, if not a smidge undervalued.

Just to throw out a number for comparison. Tyler Biadsz signed for 3 years $30M in free agency. D'Andre Swift signed for 3 years $27M.

Both of those guys are playing good football for their new teams. Does adding Biadasz at C (versus a replacement-level guy like say Hoffman) help your offense more than adding Swift at RB (versus a replacement-level guy like say Dowdle)? I think that could go either way, and that's a sign that the FA market for RBs is adjusted correctly.

One thing I will say about Saquon and Henry popping off this season. Both of those teams play with dangerous running QBs who completely change numbers games in run fits. Having Lamar is almost like giving Henry a 6th O lineman. Not to say that both RBs aren't crazy talented, but that's a circumstance in their success that I think is being overlooked.
With Saquan we also have to remember that he made a Giants team with Danny Dumps at QB a playoff team. They even won the WC game
