He picked his on groceries......speaking of which ultimately all his time equaled here is flashy press conferences and Richie Anderson hurdling someone

Excuse me, he got the Cowboys to a playoff game with QUINCY "Freaking" CARTER under center, whom he did not pick.

I'm not here to elevate Parcells to the status of Jimmy Johnson as it relates to his career with the Cowboys, but Parcells did bring a discipline back to the Cowboys. That discipline helped the Cowboys get to the playoffs with Quincy Carter as the starting quarterback.

Even so, I thought the game had passed Parcells by as a coach. I think he lost much of his coaching passion when he was with the Cowboys. But I think he got the most out of his talent moreso than Jason Garrett does.

By comparison, Garrett is a YOUNG coach who has benefited from very good drafts. He's not in this twilight years as a coach. He should be in the innovative years of his coaching career.

So I expect more from him than I expected from Parcells.

And while I can't prove this, I believe if Parcells had come to the Cowboys a years younger, we would have been to the Super Bowl by now.

People can say what they want to, but he had a way of forging underachieving and less talented teams and making them solid teams capable of making the playoffs and advancing in the playoffs.

You can talk about any thing you want. I can't find any thing that puts Garrett any where near the coach Parcells was.
To add, Sean helped get him here, Parcells brought him along.

Maybe I wear rose colored glasses toward the future, how is wearing in the past different

They had very good HCs. Can't put Garrett in that class.

Yes, because they let their coaches coach. When Bill Cowher had 3 extremely mediocre seasons from 1998-2000, they didnt can him, they supported him.

When Mike Tomlin didn't get them to the playoffs in 2012 and 2013, they stayed the course.

Since scheme is so important to those around here, I wonder what exactly is Mike Tomlin's scheme? He was a defensive secondary coach that primarily ran a cover 2. He went to 2 Super Bowls not playing that defense, but playing Dick Lebeau's defense.

It's not. Maybe some day Garrett will learn how to coach and realize it's not just about fighting but winning the fight. This day today? He's no where near the coach Parcells was.

We have been staying the course. One good season is al it has brought so far. I think Romo has proven that he carried the team and coaches to the 8-8 seasons.

Garrett is considered as talent evaluator and motivator, if so why can't he get a single victory in 6 games without Romo?

Also don't understand how can he roll dice with Brandon Weed as backup , that doesn't speak volume for talent evaluation.

I don't know why , Dallas coaches fail to put the players in a position to succeed, long dev loping routes cannot be sustained without Romo then we should go with shorter quicker outs and slants ....

If we don't have the secondary to play good zone / tampa2 we should change it up , play more press and blitz , maul whatever...

I know you're not allowed to say anything about "you know what" but this season has been crazy........you couldn't convince me that this team wouldn't be a well oiled machine if healthy

Honestly I wasn't impressed game one this season. There was a good shot that they could have been. But it is what it is and JG has shown he can't figure out how to win with out Romo.

I wouldn't really count Dez for that game(Cole needs) and missing Scandrick(goodbye depth)

Dez and Romo are the backbone, it hurt

You're right, they come off that Greenbay game well motivated and disciplined.

Boy that Anderson hurdle was nice though, almost make up for no playoff wins(sorry was told more snark is good)

It's an interesting discussion because both coaches had similar shortcomings in Dallas. Parcells's defense, like Garrett's offense, was completely dependent on players winning individual matchups.

Garret has a franchise QB, WR, TE and a heck of better team... Parcels did a lot more with less......Could you see Garrett coaching Quincy Carter?.

Why did he choose to have less and ultimately fail?

I didn't see it that way. he was trying to instill the things that needed to be done and how to act. Who better to do it than older players who respect the game?
