ARLINGTON — Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant had a frustrating game in the 28-17 loss to the Cardinals.
Bryant had just two catches for 15 yards and a touchdown Sunday.
Bryant had to deal with the Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson all game, as well as poor play from backup quarterback Brandon Weeden, who started in place of the injured Tony Romo.
“You’ve got to give (Weeden) the benefit of the doubt,” Bryant said. “I’ve been working a guy for all my career, talking about Nine (Romo). Coming in, really not trying to make any excuses, we still should have gotten a lot done, but we didn’t. It is what it is. It’s very frustrating.”
Bryant was actually in danger of going catchless until the final two minutes of the game when he followed a 12-yard reception with a meaningless 3-yard touchdown reception at the 1:13 mark. He was targeted a team-high 10 times, but he and Weeden failed to connect for the better part of three quarters.
“You’ve got to understand, you know, when you don’t have everybody it can make a difference. It showed today,” Bryant said. “Truthfully, of course, I missed (Romo). But I believe in Weeden too. I believe in him. Things didn’t go our way. We’ve got to go back to the drawing board and fix what we need to fix.”
Bryant is the Cowboys’ leading receiver, with 50 catches for 635 yards and six touchdowns.
