His role has changed with Dak taking over at QB and the emergence of Beasley. Dez himself last season said his role has changed. He was our go to receiver under Romo, he targeted Dez a lot even when he wasn't open. He gave Dez many jump ball and fade opportunities. Listen to the video Dez said Romo made him and gave Romo a lot of credit. Dez was our third leading receiver last season. Granted he missed some games due to injury but he's not going to get as many jump ball opportunities as he once did. Look at his numbers the past two seasons without Romo.

Let them work this summer and Dez might get more balls his way. A good way for this team to improve is to use both Dak and Dez more.

Just tell Dak to stop fishing and start throwing passes to Dez even if Dez is sleep in the bed.

Better get used to it Dez, not going to be seeing as many jump balls anymore. Your role has changed.
Yeah let's be happy that one of the best jump ball players the leauge has ever seen will see less jump balls....because somehow that makes sense.

Dez has one season in his career with the most receptions on the team. His role has always been yardage and TDs. Coincedentally he led the team in both categories again last year despite missing three games and not being healthy or in sync with Dak a few others. So yeah. Same role.

His health is been a problem and when he's on the field he has up-and-down games. He has a big game and does nothing the next 2-3 weeks. I don't ever see him having the consistent production with Dak that he had with Romo. He'll still have some big games but not on a consistent basis.

Sure he will have up and down games.

If he stays healthy and his down games are 3 catches for 40 yards instead of 1 catch for 7 yards---his numbers would be where we want them to be.

Rewatch the last 3 games Dak and Dez played together, the chemistry is building. I am so excited to see how they look with their first ever offseason together.

Dez's yards and TD's have been way down the past 2 seasons due to injury and not having Romo on the field. He acknowledged in an interview last season that his role has changed and said he was fine with that as long as we win. He only had one catch in the season opener because Dak throws to the open receiver. Dak looks to move the chains unlike Romo who was always looking for the big play. In 2014 some felt next to Romo, Dez was the most important player on our offense.

Some felt we couldn't win without him but last season we won 3 games without him. He's not depended on the way he was depended on with Romo at QB. With the type of QB Dak is, Dez is going to have to improve his route running or Beasley will continue to take catches and yards away from him. With Romo, Dez could depend on his ability to win contested battles for the ball because he knew Romo would give him plenty of opportunities. Things were different last season with Dak at QB, he looks to play mistake free football and move the chains.

I agree the chemistry did improve late last season between Dez and Dak but for Dez to get back to putting up elite numbers, he has to stay healthy and learn to run better routes. He understands he's not going to get as many jump ball opportunities with Dak and this could make Dez a better receiver, knowing he has to find a way to gain separation and get open.

Less jump ball opportunities last season certainly didn't have a negative effect on our offense. We had one of the most efficient offenses we've had in years because Dak protected the football and looked to move the chains. Dak is going to force Dez to become a better route runner or Beasley will continue to take catches and yards away from him.

Beasley didn't take yards and catches away from Dez because of his route running. Dak preferred the underneath stuff especially when his no int streak was alive. He missed Dez on a number of pitch and catch long completions/tds. Dez needs to be utilized more by Dak. A good qb stays within himself and protects the ball. A great qb maximizes the talents of his offensive weapons. Does Dak have greatness in him?

Beasley took catches and yards away from him because he gets open and moves the chains. Romo rarely stayed within himself which is why he committed so many ill-timed turnovers. Dak does have greatness in him because he's a very good decision maker and maintains his poise under pressure which is why we were able to make a game of it against Green Bay in the playoffs after being so far behind.

The Romo as a turnover machine narrative eh?

2013 wants it's arguments back.

If you're looking for an argument go find someone else. You're not about to waste my time today.

Romo and Dez didnt have great chemistry off the bat either, I remember reading multiple reports about their offseason workouts together to get in sync. Dak and Dez will be fine, they just gotta work on that aspect. Once that happens, it adds a whole new element to our offense.
Not that Dez is a great route-runner now, but he was a truly poor one in his early years.
The early lack of "chemistry" had everything to do with that.

As physical as he can be, he'd sometimes get frustrated and not go after the ball like he's capable of. See the Revis pick early in his career. Somewhat bad route and then didn't fight for it. But Revis did that to a lot of QBs and WRs back then.
Other times, Dez just flat out ran the wrong route completely, with bad results.

He got better and was always really gifted.

I did the exact opposite actually. When you referenced Romo has some turnover machine I disregarded you for the troll you were being.

Good day sir.

I give Dak credit for that. Dez has to step up, no question, he's the vet. Since both of them are healthy right now, they need alot of work together this offseason. Thats what the offseason is for, to improve.

Dak and Dez are still the main way we can improve on offense unless we get another weapon. All we can do is hope they put in the work.

With Dak at QB Dez is going to have to work on his route running and he knows it. He'll get some jump ball opportunities but Dak is going to continue throwing to the open receivers and look to move the chains. The worst game Dak had last season was against the Giants late in the season not being on the same page with Dez, trying to force balls to him.

Dez has always relied on his size and strength to win battles but he's going to have to become a better route runner with Dak. As for another weapon we need a speed deep threat who can stretch the field and take some of the attention off of Dez. This would open up some crossing routes for him.

Of course we need another threat, I would prefer a speed one but who know's what will be available. No matter what is said, the offense isn't just 'fine'. We do need mostly D in this draft, but we need another offensive threat badly....unless JG actually wants to do something creative with this offense. Or actually put the ball in Zeke's hands more, whether in the run or passing game.

Dez hasn't really been healthy, but he is healthy right now. Him rounding off routes really bothers me. Rice got open cause he ran crisp routes, wish he would pay attention. He knows the route tree, he's just lazy when running them.

Our offense is just fine, we had one of the top offenses in the league last season ranking #2 overall. We had one of the most efficient offenses we've had in years. We had one of the top QBs in the league and the top rusher in the league. We had arguably the best OL in the league and some excellent receivers.

A speed receiver would certainly enhance our offense but we can win a championship with the offense we currently have. What we desperately need is defense. We're going to have a tough time ever getting past the divisional round of the playoffs with the defense we have.

Dez is good. Romo made him unstoppably great.

I credit Dez for knowing and appreciating that.
