Just did a quick look back at the game and counted the number of plays that Dez was on the field. Now, this is by no means meant to be an official stat. I was trying to get through that thing as quickly as possible so I may have missed a couple.

Anyway, I counted 20 snaps for Dez. Of those 20, I got at least 6 of them coming after Witten went out, during desperation drives.

It seemed like he wasn't there a lot and I gotta say, 20 snaps is pretty light.

Dallas had like 70 offensive plays? And Bryant only gets 20 snaps with a hefty chunk coming at the end of the game?

Don't really know what to make of that. Yeah, he's a rookie but I think you gotta get him in there more than that. A lot more.

Also,

To whichever tweet said that Dallas only runs when Hurd is in the game, that wasn't true.

Dallas threw a couple of times when he was in there and one pass play was killed by a penalty.

When I first read your thread title, I thought you meant Dez Bryant had expressed outrage at the Bears players.:D

Sorry. Tried to change it but it didn't carry through.

Well in the defense of the Cowboys the receivers weren't really the problem today. Some dropped passes. Some bad thrown footballs. Other wise its hard to really complain too much about the receivers. Penalties IMO are why we didn't score more than 10 points on offense today. But that's the same reason why we didn't last week as well.

Me, too.
The lower snap count certainly has to do with him being a rookie who missed most of training camp. His snaps will go up as he continues to produce, but limiting him early was the percentage play and a good coaching decision.

Can a mod change the title?

I don't know about limiting him simply because he's a rookie.

He's already proven to be one of the most dynamic players on the team. I just can't get into the idea of deliberately putting lesser capable players on the team because you are afraid he's not ready.

Just my opinion.

He's not just a rookie. He missed most of training camp. It made sense to step up his snaps initially. I bet he gets a lot more next week. By week six, he'll be starting, or at least playing most of the game.

He's probably not prepared yet to run all the routes with confidence and precision.

Plus remember...he's still the third receiver behind Roy. (for now)

That has nothing to do with anything. The Cowboys ran a lot of 3 receiver sets today and like Hoof sort of insinuated, he's not even out there at times in the 3 receiver sets. I think that's more of Dez than it is the Cowboys coaching staff not wanting to play him. Garretts playbooks isn't easy to learn and Dez didn't have preseason to get use to it. He'll get better. I think he benefits this team playing the Percy Harvin role best anyway IMO.

Even with being a rookie and missing training camp, he was targeted last week almost as many times as he even stepped into a formation for the first 3-1/2 quarters this week.

I don't have the numbers for last week but I would bet he got more snaps last week.

The targeting in Garrett's offense is a function of what the defense gives. I'd imagine without looking it up that Dez had about the same number of snaps last week.

We're not really disagreeing too much, anyway. In a few short games, he's already earned more playing time.

Meh, it looked like Dallas was trying to get him involved. You don't force a couple of screens in his direction, one right after the other, if he isn't the guy you wanna go to.

I'm just thinking he needs to be on the field more. Rookie or not, he's already shown how good he is.

One thing I noticed when watching the game again was the number of times that Martellus was out wide. Seemed like a few.

Have Dez sit his sorry butt on the bench over there by Felix. The world should know I don't need any first round draft picks to make this offense run, I'm a genius and my superb play calling ability will make it known that I can call anything and make it work.

I'd love to see how they are covering Bryant when he is in the game. With the wide screen format, they could show more of the coverage, but instead at the snap they zoom in a bit and center up on the QB/Line.
